Being as how all the ASE Certificatons are being thrown around....lets through a ASE Master Cert, L1, a Calif. Smog License, a degree in Auto. Technology.

Be damned what the book says.....its what the dipstick shows.

Mine shows full on 5 qts. too.

4qts. its shows low.

As far as damage, the oil is not foamed (hitting the crank or through windage)....its not running out of the engine.

All_InTheRED, I'm proud of you for going through all the training it takes to get all those licenses, etc., really , I was jsut trying to add some level of credebility to let Scammper know that too much oil can damage an engine as easily as not enough...you know that, you decribed what it would do in your last post. And if you look at the page out of my owners manual, anyone can see as well as I do that is shows 4 qts. Both of your dipsticks read full at 5, mine shows full at 4...so maybe my V6 is an Import Camaro tuned by Honda

I don't come on here to flame, nor do I ever intend to, I am kinda like Brent (Brent94Z), I have one bad day every three years and can get along with just about anybody. I was just trying to help...and I think being pretty open minded about it too..
Quoting my previous reply:
"this is out of a 1994 but 1995 should be the same...let me know if it isn't."

Which Scammper did let me know that his book read differently (Thanks Scammper), now I know. And he also is being pretty open minded about it..saying he would check with 4 qts...So, now if anybody who doesn't know how much oil to put in a 3.4L, don't worry,
The book is screwed, different dipsticks show different readings apparently, and it has been proven that 4 or 5 qts. will work.

That should clear things up...

Oh, sorry for taking that the wrong way on the filter thing, I think I read it wrong the first time actually, so good job pokin' at me!

Edit: In reply to the original post, I will still use my 3qts. of Mobil 5W-30 and 1qt. Lucas Oil Stabilzer...along with the grippy Fram Filters

I've always put 4qts in mine and it shows full for me. I'll go check again before I head off to work to see what its looking like

An interesting fact though is when I had Wal Mart change my oil a couple of times when I was away from home. Both times they put 4.5 qts in the car? Atleast thats what their invoices showed.

I scanned in the page from my book and put it on my webpage... just follow the link in my sig. and then click on the Engine & Suspension link at the bottom...
(my page needs lots of work)

maybe between the 94 and 95 years they increased the crankcase size just a little so that it would be more uniform with the V8's ?? just a thought

That would make a lot of sense, It would be nice to know for sure what the deal is...It's easy to see that you are recommended to put in 5qts no doubt...Just for the sake of it, I checked mine (oil) and it is still good, changed about 1k miles ago - so surely there is a differnce. Who knows?

94Bowtie...

Wasn't trying to be a a$$.

Just havin' some fun, its nothing new for the manufactures to not tell the printing companies about a mid-year/running model year tweak here or there.

You should see what ford does.
