what oil you using?
Just wanted to take a survey and see what others are using for oil...
I just recently switched from regular Pennzoil 10w-30... to the new High Mileage Pennzoil.

I'm a huge RP fan as well
A little pricey; but it's like purple magic I have 17qt of RP - ATF in my closet just begging me to flush my trans.

For the ones that're running the 'High Mileage' oil... are you pleased with it? I changed the oil in mine over the weekend *even though its still banging on 5 cylinders * and put the usual Havolinie 5W30 in it. I almost picked up some of that High Mileage Pennzoil. I used to run nothing but Mobil1 Synthetic in it up til around a year ago.

I went with the Valvoline High Mileage stuff a while back and I think I remember it giving me another couple mpg's... but then I went back to pennzoil (its a family tradition)... and I now have only had the pennzoil high mileage in for a week, gonna check the mpg soon (letting it get settled in there...)

I'm running 3qts. Mobil 5W-30 and a quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I just started using the Lucas Stabilizer this oil change, and since I haven't had the first puff of oil smoke I am pushing 121k, and the Mobil is just fine for me. I've done several engine rebuilds and the cleanest engines I have ever been into were run on Mobil (they were all mine) Synthetic has its advantages, so I don't discredit the Royal Purple guys at all, but I could talk all day about oil, so I'll just leave it at that.
Edit: In my V8's I run Synthetic's all the way through (Amsoil), but on V6's, they just don't run hard enough IMHO.

Unless you drive something other than a 3.4L V6, here's a link to the owners manual...this is out of a 1994 but 1995 should be the same...let me know if it isn't.
http://daltons71gmc.carsouth.com/photo2.html
You'll notice under Crankcase it has VIN Engine Code S..which is the 3.4L, and then a VIN Engine Code P..which is the 5.7L. For Code S it has ONE line..........4.0 qt.
For Code P it has two lines..one with and one without filter change, but since this is irrelevant to a 3.4L Code S engine, we can just ignore that. Still disagree?, call your local GM Service Dept., they'll tell you the same thing..4.0 qt's, whether you change the filter or not...thus being the reason that there is only one line for Code S, it's the same both ways.
Why did I go through this trouble?
1. You are overfilling you crankcase and that is not good. You check the dipstick, but is it over the line?, because it should be. I just don't want you to hurt your car.
2. Being an ASE Certified Mechanic on the side, it isn't that much trouble to explain how to check oil levels.
3. You tried to make me look like a Di*k...

P.S. I use Fram too, every 3k, I like the grippy stuff as well

first off, I wasnt trying make you look like anything, just joking around...
and I check the oil level everytime I fill gas and it is right at the full line always. Although on my next oil change I am gonna try putting in just four, run it for a bit, and then check it...
now in my book that is in the glove box, it has all the capacities for everything and also has them broken down for each engine code... however under crankcase it only has two lines: with and without filter change, with no reference to engine codes.
and Im not sure if its correct logic, but my old car was a 2.9L and it used 5 qts with filter change so it just made sense that the 3.4L would also be the same. so I didnt read too far into the book
I am definately very curious now...
