v6 to v8 engine swap
Hi everyone,
Ok, I've basically read every post here and it's been all a great help.
I own a 1999 3.8L v6 5 speed Camaro. The engine was just blown the other day, so I need to replace it. I'm waiting till spring to do so, so I'm looking at the options.
From what I've gathered, in order to do an LT1 or LS1 swap, I'd need to swap transmissions as well. I'd rather not do that. What about a small block 350 engine? Can I then use the same tranny and what may be some other requirements to do the swap.
As a last option, a bigger v6 might have to do, such as a 4.3L. Can the same tranny be used with this and what may be some other requirements?

Re: v6 to v8 engine swap
Unless you have a whole parts car, it would be way to expensive, and probably not as reliable, as a v8 car would be.
An LS or LT1 is a small block 346 or 350 and the 5 speed probably wouldn't stand up to the torque for long. probably the same for a 4.3, snce they are basically a 350 minus 2 cylinders.

Re: v6 to v8 engine swap
You need to swap trannies for any engine other than the 3.8L...period.
4.3L v6, Baby LT1 4.3l v8, Big LT1, Vortec 350, TBI 350...you name it. The botl patterns are way different from the 60 degree v6 bolt pattern the 3.8L uses and the tranny from the v6 cars lacks the extra clutch packs a v8 version has.
