VATS system wont let car start...

So, my car won't start...'98 V6 Camaro...
Had a friend look at it, said the peice that reads the key resistor was bad...so he put a resistor into it...it worked for 2 days...

then it wouldnt start again...

so he wired the ignition directly to the fuel pump and the starter. It worked for 2 days, and now it wont start again...or, it will start but its very finicky.

I don't want to start it up and it get me stranded somewhere.

So, my buddy said the end all be all to this problem would be to get the VATS system removed, but no whre around here will be able to do it on v6 camaro's.

What do i do?

Read up on bypassing the VATS system. Go to gen tech and do a search. You can do it, not to knock your friend but maybe he is just not doing it 100% right, It obviously can be done since you were able to start it.

Or you could just spend $27 and get a new key.

It it wasn't the key and the VATS, there is a good chance its just a bad starter switch?

I had one go out on my 94 back in like '01. It would very sporadically start. I have seen a few peopel with the problem as well.

its possible that is it. Maybe try asking in the Gen tech section...

Alright, i've pretty much narroed it down to the VATS system is just being a PITA. Where can i find somewhre to ship my BCM to that will re-program it so that the car will start w/o needing the VATS signal?
