Squeals AFTER turning on AC?

Ok, this is a 95 3.4 Camaro.

I had a very BAD squeal when I would turn on the AC, and if I would quickly shut the AC off, the squeal would go away. The car has 88k miles on it.

I replaced the tensioner pulley, the whole assembly. The squealing went away for a little while, but it has returned. It will squeal for about 5-8 seconds, and then go away completely when the AC is turned on. The belt looks fine, but I thought about putting a gatorback on it to see if that would help.

Anyone have any ideas? It's a very embarressing issue, I hate it when it happens.

Thanks!

If it goes away in 8 seconds or less, it sounds like it's the sound of the Clutch engaging to the pully - perhaps it is slipping until it is fully engaged...

I don't know what it is, but I hope it doesn't get any worse. It's embarrassing. It won't happen after the car has been running over 5 minutes or so. This is usually at start up. You know, when it's really HOT outside, and you want to turn on the AC as the car starts.....I put it in Drive, and turn the AC ****, and SQUEALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL,
and then I turn it off to the vent.....wait a few minutes, then turn the AC back on, no more squeals

i would focus your attention on the ac compressor and the pump like need said as the clutch engages its squeeling. dont know if it needs replacing or there is something like a simple fix for it though. i dont think lube would help it since it needs to grab maybe a good cleaning??

belt is slipping on one of the pullies caused by the extra drag the A/C makes.
If there was a way to add even more tension to the belt I can bet you it wouldn't do that.

Maybe you need a shorter belt to put more tension on it.

That is a good idea. I think I will look into getting a shorter belt first before I do anything else. I need something tighter. And a gatorback as well.

Thanks
