Is replacing a fuel filter easy?

I had my car in at the dealer today for some last minute maintenace before the warrenty expires next month (had a wheel bearing that needed to be replaced).

The dealer said that I'm getting close to the 30K mark and that I should have the fuel filter replaced.

My questions are/is when should this be done? Is it easy to do? I was quoted $48.00 for it installed.

I've replaced the fuel filter on my '65 Mustang a few years ago. it wasn't hard at all with it being on top of the engine.

Any comments on this? Where is the fuel filter on my car? <--haven't spent much time under the hood.

My car is an '01 3800 car with a manual five-speed.

Be ready for a shower.

Underneath the rear of the car...driver's side. Small little cylinder-ish canister.

You can try to relieve some pressure by undoing your gas cap.

i changed the filter on my car, wasn't too bad. do like importkiller said and undo your gas cap a little while before you plan on changing it to relieve the pressure. i didnt get too much fuel spill at all, it was pretty simple. if you search for "f-fbody fuel filter install" on google or something there is a guide that shows you how to do it if you're still unsure about it.

I did that for the first time 2 weeks ago. It was really easy. If I can do it, you can do it. Follow, Shoebox's guide.
