Which is quieter?

The dynomax super turbo muffler or a stock z28 muffler? With stock piping going into it?

my guess is gonna be that the dynomax is gonna be louder due to it being less restrictive than a stock one

That's what I would've guessed too.

So the Z28 muffler then will be a little more stock sounding I guess? Thanks for the quick replies.

I pulled into the parking lot one day and was about to get out when I see a co-worker entering the parking lot in her Z28. So I sat for a minute and decided to listen to it. She didn't cruise by me but parked two spaces from where I was and I never heard a thing in the early morning hour. Very quiet. I heard another SS LS1 and it was quiet until it "got on it" (sounded a little raspy though, like my old FM, but did have the SS badging on it). So, I would imagine.

Sorry, I can't give more definate advice, but I've been reading up on these exhausts systems for awhile. If you want a quiet but good sounding exhaust I'd probably go with the Z28 takeoff. Someone on the camarov6.com posted a clip and it did sound good...quiet at idle.

Cool! I'll guess I will get the z28 take off since it is quieter. Any decrease in the performance, or the same since I will be using the stock piping?

Edit: Would this be the same as the z28? Is it cheaper here or better ordering the factory?

I don't know if SLP has any z28 take off mufflers or not. Im pretty sure the firebird muffler listed on their site is the same as a Z28 muffler but they just have different tips (someone correct me if im wrong). I don't see anythign wrong with you getting the trans am muffler listed on slp. I bought one from a guy on this site selling his trans am muffler in the for sale secion, and i just got it, and put on my camaro last friday. You could probably find one for cheaper on ebay or on the for sale secion on here. It sounds pretty good. I think its acctually louder than on my car then on a v8 car. The trans am muffler acctually looks pretty nice on my car. I have a few pictures of it. Excuse the writing on the bumper. I told my friend with a digtal camera to come take some pictures of it while i was at work and to put them on his site. He wrote the stuff on the bumper to be funny.

Whats funny with the take off, is that
A) there usually louder on manual cars(due to the gears staying engaged)
B) they usually sound best on the car they belong on(z-28 take off on a camaro and T/A or WS6 on a firebird)

In general they are not as loud as some of the after market mufflers, but they give one of the best sounds for a 6 cyl car. The key here is you need some restriction to make up for the 2 cyls your down from the 8. The louder mufflers like flowmasters sound more like, just that, a 6 with an exhaust. I'm not saying that you cant tell the difference from a stock 8 in higher rpms, just that the sound is closer.

My take off usued to shame one of my freinds 01' stock Z-28s. She was really pissed. I have also had an SS guy pissed cause my car was louder than his. Of course it is no contest vs an 8 with an exhaust.

Hmmm....I have an auto so I won't be too high in the rpm range. So I guess I will start looking for a z28 muffler since it will be a little lower in sound. I just don't want that constant drone coming out of it, just looks. Is there anything I can put on the muffler to make quieter like a resonator or do I have that mixed up? I know it sounds weird, but I travel a lot and I like the quiet ride. Thanks for the replies so far!

Both of the mufflers have a very quiet interrio resonance level, due to the fact that they are stock set ups. You can hear them inside the car, the WS6 being the most noticiable, but not a point of creating a nasty drone or to the point where you cant hear the radio or carry out a conversation. However, drop the T-s and kill the radio and you can enjoy the exhaust while crusing. I think its the way to go on a 6 cyl.
