6500 rpms?

thats waaaay past the power band...

I am not quit sure autos are not my specialty but you woudl have done better shifting at 4700.

Have you tried it in 3 or D whatever it is, does it still do it?

Have you tried it like 1-2-3 manually does it still not shift to 3rd?

I just bought a cheerokee......those I-6 4.0 are peppy little motors. It shouldn't be beating a 3.4 in good condition but its not a slacker motor whatsoever.

I learned that the hard way. Powershifting from 3rd to 4th, but hit 2nd. Blew the motor. AHHHHH the old days.

Don't know about your tranny problem, but I have a 1993 Grand Cherokee with a V-8 (318 Dodge engine--factory) and I'll tell you it's no dog for a stock truck. Fun as hell to pass those Monte's and Grand Prix's and look at their face in the mirror when they see the V-8 badge on the back.

the problem is you are driving a 94 f-body. its almost 10 years old and built slow to begin with.

I read you should powerbrake with your tranny on "D" (not "OD"), and I don't think your engine revs that high, and should be aware of a bad shift solenoid.

The stock I6 in a Cherokee is rated 30 horsepower more than a stock 3.4, bringing it to a rating of 190. Plus he's got more torque, and your trans messing up didn't help either.

Sounds like you might want to look into a possible shift kit and maybe a torque converter. Like the others said you shouldn't be starting out in OD just D. These 700r4s aren't built stock to stand up to punishment playing around in OD. Now if you want to spend about $2k then have one built like the vettes have....

He's got a '94...It should be a 4L60-E, which won't shift into overdrive until conditions permit.

ACTUALLY.

The V6 fbody was a little slow. (still enough to get you in to trouble, and more than good enough to pick up the ladies).

but they did have the Z28 which last time I checked was'nt that slow.
