Okay me and my cousin have been arguin about over drive for my 4 speed automatic with overdrive while normal driving occurs around town like at 35 miles per hour should it be placed in drive or overdrive and on the high way which should it be placed at. Finally while racing and stomping it to the gas to the floor should it be placed in drive or overdrive thank u for your any answers

 

It's an automatic, the only thing leaving in D does is preventing it from going into 4th gear.

 

The only time when OD (4th) is not acceptable is when you're towing a heavy load up a hill, or when you feel that you might need to embarass someone, and you don't want to do a 4-2 shift but you don't want to leave it in 2nd, so you place it in D. Other than that OD is great for gas mileage.

 

Only time I EVER use something other then OD is when I'm driving around Hi point NJ so I dont ride my brakes.

I've done everything in OD, raced, snow, you name it. it's just 1st, 2 nd, 3rd, 4th, OD is nothing special.
