Really depends more on highway or city? Do you have a heavy foot on the brakes? Do you powerbrake? Take them out and you can see if they need replaced or not

i do mostly highway driving...though a fair amount of city as well, i'm not too heavy on the brakes...i have been known to powerbrake

i figure i might change them out just to know they have been done

Fortunately they tend to last a loooong time although you're probably getting close.

Good luck changing the shoes You'll soon find out why I hate drum brakes with a passion.

hehe, one reaosn why I upgraded to 4-wheel disc brakes.

My pinion seal was leaking, I had a broken lug, gears were fried, and about 100k on the rear drum brakes.

fixed all that with a used WS6 rear end, gave me 3.42s, limted slip and 4 wheel disc brakes, solved all my troubles quickely.

As for your question i woudl look into getting them done.

hey man, while you're there gettin the parts, get yourself a haynes manual and a drum brake tool, those two things will make putting the springs back on a whole helluva lot easier.
