HELP!? Many Questions!!!

Hey all this is my first post and am glad to be a part of the camaro forums...anywho

I just put in my K&N CAI......i accidently got the offroad aircharger one, wil that pass emmisions??? also my friend who put it in for me dented it a little with a screw driver and i think there is a maybe 1mm diameter hole in it, does that make any difference at all???

I also just got my exhaust flowmaster American Thunder cat back system put in. Sounds bad *** but not quite what I expected. It isnt all that loud.....and doesnt quite have the rumble i thought it would....but i didnt want it to be to loud anyways...but i guess im just wondering why.

Also when I rev my engine or acc. above 3000rpm i hear like a raddling noise...almost like sand shaken around in a jar or something. But it doesnt sound like it is from my cat back, maybe up further..i duno what the deal is...any ideas before i take it to a shop to get it looked at.

Also, i dont feel like im any faster after putting those in. To tell you the truth it almost feels slower...what is the deal with that?

Also, ive heard people say that intake and exhaust add maybe 5 hp, then others that say it adds 15-20...how much do you think i got on a 2000 v6

Lastly......what do you think i should do next....i was thinking maybe a pulley, 9mm plugs, headers, or a shift kit, or 160 thermostat or something along those lines....any suggestions of what and where is cheapest to get???

Thank for your help guys!!!

* There is nothing wrong with that exhaust on a V6

* The intake will pass emissions. Where is the hole...in the filter?

* I don't know what to say about the car not being rumbly enough. You should have listened to it on another car before you bought it. Remember, its a V6...equally close to a 4-banger as a V8.

* Can't comment on the noise. Hard for any of us to say without actually hearing it.

* I'm not sure what size the I-pipe is on the American Thunder system, but you probably just "lost" some power down low but gained it up top. Take it on the freeway and push her...I bet she feels quicker then.

* Headers will help make your exhaust deeper and a little louder. Performance wise...eh, I didn't notice too much.

* HP Guesstimates suck...if you really want to know, dyno it.

* We can't tell you what to do next...tell us how much money you can afford to put in and what you want to do with your car then we can SUGGEST what would be the logical next step.

BTW...9mm plugs? Did you mean 8mm plug wires? Thats all you need...and you WONT feel any difference with that.

Mods, can we have a sticky titled "I'm new...what next?".

what does 4 banger on a v8 mean?

a got a few hundred more to spend

i didnt have a chance to listen to it on anotehr car all i could do was listen to it on their website but they were all on v8s

what muffler comes with the american thunder?

what is "dyno"ing it?

how are shift kits and pulleys?

how can i tell if i have the Y87 performance package??

i think my pipes are 2-1/2" on the v6

Yes, 8mm are good performance wires. Check out MSD or Taylor.

what does 4 banger on a v8 mean?

4 banger is slang for a 4 cylinder engine

Ceramic coated headers will run about $300 for parts, $300 for install if you dont do it yourself. If you are slightly handy and can do it yourself, get some headers or start looking around junkyards for a Z-28 or T/A rear end with posi and 3.42 gears. Used rear end should run $3-400. You could also get a custom tune through Websters or TSP for about $275. They show a nice increase even on mostly stock cars of about 10hp throughout the powerband.

It an 80 series Flowmaster Muffler

what is "dyno"ing it?

how do you explain it simple like? Its a machine where you park the wheels of your car on it and then run the car up to wide open throttle so it can measure and plot curves of your horsepower and torque.

how are shift kits and pulleys?

shift kits cause wear on your tranny. Custom tunning among the many other things it can do is up the line pressure and decrease the torque management in your auto tranny and create firmer faster shifts. Pulleys really arent available for our cars, unless you get ones meant for front wheel drive 3800's.

how can i tell if i have the Y87 performance package??

there will be an RPO code on your door or in your glove compartment for it.

i think my pipes are 2-1/2" on the v6

correct
