Post Going Z!!! Care To Help???

Currently, i have a 1998 3.8l automatic. I've got about seven grand invested into this car, but theres alot of problem with it also. I've decided to sell it to get a Z28, and i've already got a prospect. assuming i can get $2k for my 3.8, I'm also putting $2k as my down payment (total of 4,000). I've got a personaly friend of mine thats the owner of a small dealership and is looking in auctions for me. We've managed to find a compeletly stock '99 black Z28 w/72k miles, but its got some rear bumper damage. (most likely just a fender bender) He bought it for $4,500, and is going to get a new bumper and a new paint job for me. Other than that, He's selling it to me for only $7,000!!! I've driven and inspected the car, and seems to have no obvious mechanical problems. My problem is, that the car will be a "rebuilt title" and I'm not sure what that'll do to my insurance. (besides from it being an "older" year V8).

My Questions:

A) What do you think? Good deal, or no?

B) For that price, you think something could be wrong with it? (my dealer friend isn't going to put money into looking into it)

C) Assuming i have a "bad" (woops) driving record, and i pay $370/month for insurance on my V6, what do you think my insurance will be with this "rebuilt title" V8?

D) Can you fit a car seat into the back seats???( I've got a baby coming in about two weeks, and i never considered if a carseat could fit into the back seat!!!!!)

For a guy who has bad driving record (probably for speeding) and having a baby on the way; shouldn't considered getting a Z. Get a nice sedan (gtp or est).

$370 a month for a v6 holy. A Z28 would cost some where around $500 area for you.

i think you could find a good z for $7000. One that hasnt been wrecked.
I would look for a new insurance company too.

Yes, you can fit a baby seat back there. I take my daughter's in and out as I need it, and you can't really carry anything else you need for the kids back there. Not so great for daily family use; and if your driving record is soooo bad that you pay that much insurance do you REALLY want to put a baby in the back of a Z?

Re: Going Z!!! Care To Help???

Personally I believe you get what you pay for...

Neither of these are comparable but just so you know basis... I bought a 97 V6 Camaro that was rearended, had rear bumper problems. I had nothing but trouble ever since I purchased the car. I mean don't get me wrong I definately got things repaired and even got it where it LOOKED showroom new, however internally, the car was ready to just collapse and die any day now. Your car has a bit less miles and that $4.5K price sounds alittle inviting but watch out, cheaper doesn't always mean better because you'll end up paying the divedends in MAINTANCE which is NEVER fun...

I purchased my 2001 Camaro Z28 for $15K after financing, 42K miles, T-Tops, all options... I never ever looked back, the car is virtually maintance free other than oil changes and I owe it a brake job, other than that though I havn't had a problem with it.

My oppinion... Keep Looking...

I paid $500 per month for a V6 with a perfectly clean driving record, and switching to my Camaro Z28 with an accident I had last year, I'm actually only paying $350 per month with Progressive Auto Insurance... I don't understand it either... don't ask...

Post Re: Going Z!!! Care To Help???

I've got two tickets so far on my six year driving record. (NO ACCIDENTS, EVER!) One of them is a 30+ mph speeding ticket(woops!), the other, a non-moving violation. My insurance company is USAA, and they tell me that "by law", I have to have FULL coverage; Including the lowest deductables they have. I thought it was a little BS....but i thought atleast I've got some PREMO-PREMO auto insurance. (too bad my six month premium is worth more than my car lol). Also, they charge my up the *** because they say i live in a "high risk" neighborhood, and my car is under "high risk" of being stolen.....ok....ive got cars on my block worth over $100,000, and they're worried that MY $3000 car is going to be stolen....ok...besides from that, my plan is for financing still. I finished paying the car a while back, but i never told them i was finished. ohwell. If you guys have any tips on getting my insurance down, I'm all ears. I can use some advice on that.

As for the baby, no worries guys. My wife is going to drive the baby the majority of the time. My car is for driving to and from work; Thats just about it. The carseat is a "just in case" situation.

As for the Z28 itself, yeah, im going to keep looking. But, I know that if theres something wrong with it, i can bring it back to the dealer (whos my friend) and get it fixed with no problem.

I'm having a small problem though...My job is 19 miles away 1-way, and im worried about $3.50 a gallon for regular gasoline being a problem. I'll start a new thread about this, but what are ALL the possible upgrades i can make without decreasing performance. I'm looking to get about 25 mpg...is it possible? hmmm... money is no option. What'cha got?

Bro, seriously, call Progresive or GEICO. You are being taken for a ride big time by your insurance company. I pay $169 a month on my Camaro and a V8 Thunderbird with a 20 over the limit speeding ticket and 1 accident on my license and I live within NYC. (That's with GEICO).

P.S. For the baby seat you have to put a small couch cushion in the seat then put the baby seat on top of it or else the baby seat will shift around on you and you definitely do not want that for you babies sake. Good luck.

Re: Going Z!!! Care To Help???

First off, I think you can get more out of your V6. Less than a year ago, I sold my old '95 3.4 with 137k miles for $3,700. And definitely switch insurance brands! I pay $85 per month to fully cover my Z. I realize some of that has to do with living in Nebraska, but it shouldn't cause that big of a difference. You're gettin' raped. As for the Z, I wouldn't buy it. I know it's tempting, but you'll thank yourself many times later if you wait and find a low-mileage, nearly mint condition car that requires little to no maintainance. But I guess if you look it over REAL good and you think it's solid, it's your money. Good luck

Dude, Honestly I would browse the market, but by the sound of it you have commited to buying from your friend. 7000 for a 99 hmmm, My bro just bought a Transam Black fully loaded fast as hell, for 8000 no problems with it what so ever. Hell I woulda sold ya my Z for 1200, it sold already, but I would look around...they are out there.
