Fuel pump overheats???

My friend just bought a used 1996 firebird v6 we took out for a spin
. We started coming back home the car suddenly started to turn off.
We thought first that we ran out of gas but we put some then just did the same. We think it might be the fuel pump or the fuel filter . Or we think it might be the muffler heating up the fuel pump. What do you think ???? Also we let the car cool started like normal after two mins did the same

Re: Fuel pump overheats???

What makes you think its the fuel pump that is causing the car to shut off? is the car stumbling a little bit just prior to turning off like it running out of gas or does it just shut off like you turned the key off?
