Re: Fuel Pump?

Buy or rent a fuel pressure tester first, and check the fuel pressure. At the same time buy a Hayne's manual, or ask on a GA board to learn the correct ratings for your motor.

If the pressure is too high, it's probably not the pump.
If the pressure is too low, replace the fuel filter and check again.
If the pressure is still too low after the filter install, check the pump voltage.
If the fuel pump voltage is fine, check the fuel pressure regulator.
If all else fails, replace the pump.

If you get the Haynes manual (you should anyway) it will tell you a very detailed way to diagnose fuel problems. The above is just a general guideline.

Possibillity it's not fuel related though, could be a bad 02, cat, or an ignition problem.

Always check Fuel and Spark first, and in that order.

Only way other than a eventual collapsed lung, is to use a siphon pump. Electric if you can find one, but the crank style is the most readily available.

Most times there will still be some gas left inside. If it was a year or so I'd just do a siphon and filter change.. But three years or more?

I'd remove the tank, and have the tank cleaned and resealed. Then I'd buy a new pump sock, and a new fuel filter. That's if I wanted to start it. I don't think I have to mention the oil change, tune-up, or battery check.

I have a 1995 camro that will start but dies when you press the gas. I was told that it could be the fuel pump relay, but I don't know where it's at?
