Easy or Hard to install Shift kit??

so i was walking through my parts store today and they were blowing out the B&M Shift Kit for 9.99 so i bought one because i always read about people having. is it a worthwhile mod?? and is it easy to install or do i have to have someone install it for me?? i never really work in my engine. i do normal everyday driving around town and sometimes catch a race between stop lights. what are the benefits or cons of having this kit?? any help is greatly appreciated!

Is it the electronic one or the mechanical one?

if it was 10 bucks it has to be the electronic one, so its not worth it- compared to the mechanical one.
but if it is the mechanical one and they dropped $100 in price for some reason, then what a steal
i havent put in an electronic one, but its really not that hard, but then i personally dont think its worth it. there is a reason it is 10 bucks.

i have the mechanical one one my car, stage 2. i like it alot, though my passengers hate it (1-2 shift is hard). i have heard bad things about the electronic one though. such as it increases your line pressure and ends up destroying things. i installed mine and it was about a half a day job (went real slow due to the case of beer ) other than that i have had it on there for about 3 years with no problems other than age( 118,000 miles on my tranny, no rebuild yet) well good luck on either route you take.

Does it chirp the tires in second? My blazer does that with the shift kit, whether you want it to or not.

Is there a way to turn the mechanical one off? It can be cool sometimes...but sucks in the rain-the back end kicks out some if your crawling around a turn and it hits second...there are other times when it can become annoying too. NOt sure if I would put one on my camaro.

there is no way to turn the mechanical shift kit off. unless you get back into the tranny and change it back to stock.

Not only is performance increased, but with a shift kit another by-product is that it actually helps your transmission to work more efficiently. The softer a shift is the longer the clutches must be engaged - that builds heat. Some have estimated 25 degrees rise in temperature per shift in racing conditions. A shift kit shifts faster, the clutches are engaged less, the longer they last.

Combined with a deep pan, a cooler, and relocation filter, Your transmission would quite possibly hit 200,000 + miles with no work needed.
