3.4 to 3.8 swap

Anyone know what's involved? Are engine mounts and bellhousings identical?

Thanks

Cool

Sorry man, nothing is the same. It's just as easy to swap in a LT1 as it is a 3.8,all the same things need to be changed.Plus the 3.8 really isn't that much more power to the wheels than a 3.4.Dyno's show about a 25-30hp difference between the 2 motors. So I guess the big question is why a swap?Is your motor on it's way out?Or are you just looking for more oomph? If your motor is strong then a couple of bolt-on mods will put you up there with the 3.8 for a LOT cheaper and easier than a swap.If your motor is dying then why not swap out for a V8 if you want speed?LT1's are a lot cheaper now that the LS1 is out and you can pick up complete kits off E-bay for $1500.Another good choice is to just pick up a rebuilt 3.4 motor. There are a few nice rebuild places out there where you can get heads/cam and the whole 9 yards. Then you'll have a brand new motor that was made for your car with more HP than the 3.8.Good luck whatever you do.

I think you would be better off just to sell or trade your car(if you own it) and buy one with a 3.8.

The only way to do it is if you had a hole 3.8L camaro trans and all, and way to much time on your hands.

I tried and concluded that is will not work without replacing every wiring harness from the computer to the dash. I actually have the motor i was going to swap but gave up and got an lt1 instead.

Hasn't someone made a list and put it on a website for you guys yet?

If not when the swap is totally completed and running i will make one and put it on the net for everyone.

From what i have concluded here is what i am changing over, some stuff you can change it but i am not:

Complete LT1 engine and tranny
K-member w/ motor mounts
tranny crossmember with mount
driveshaft
cooling fans, v6 radiator shouldn't pose a problem
plastic fuel lines
computer system
misc plumbing and hoses
ps pump reservoir

Most people will jump right in and say fuel pump, rearend, gauge cluster, brakes and other stuff like this. Personally, i am keeping my drum brake rearend. Drums are soooo simple and cheap that it would be dump just to get rid of them. Also, my rearend is already a 3:23 3 series so i am just going to add a posi. Very simple. The fuelpumps are no different. I am putting a dual intake racetronix setup in mine though. V6 gauge cluster will work but be slightly off. No biggy and to me not worth the extra money for a v8 one. Brakes are all the same up front but i already have LS1 brakes which are sweet. Springs and shocks are also contemplated. I will be running V6 springs with z28 shocks all the way around and see how the manners are. Can't wait to get it rolling. Shooting for low twelves to high elevens first time out
