1992 3.1l >>

Can anyone here with a digital camera and a 3.1L engine please take some pictures of the engine compartment and email them to me at "dcruicks@harris.com"?

I am interested in the brackets and pulleys, the fuel injection setup, and the hose and ignition routing.

I just got a good deal on a 1992 in good shape except the engine is toast. The engine had already been disassembled and is no good, so I will be getting another engine, but I don't know how all the brackets go back on.

Thanks!

PS: Does anyone know how the V8 tpi cars and the 3.1L tpi cars differed as far as the accessory locations? I was kicking around the idea of putting a V8 into it since a V8 motor is only about a $200 more than the V6 at the salvage yard, but only if it was minimal re-routing.

you cannot share any accesories, really you can swap an entier v8 in there.... but a 305 tbi, is really not that powerful, and unless you do a better v8 swap, for the ease may jsut want ot keep it a v6.

BTW depending on your budget. A 3.4L is in order, all the accesories, intake, fuels systesm and computer work the same, jsut a little bit better motor. Might be able to get a 20 hp increase jsut by doing that, but rember it has to be a 3.4L RWD motor, most likely out of a 4th gen f-body.

hope I helped a little even thogh I can't answer your question, I had a 85 2.8L nad now a 3.4L, 3.1 l is the only 608 v6 I haven't owned.

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the info... I didn't realize that the 3.4 was that similar. I guess I will be getting a 3.4 then.

Do you know if the 3800 is similar in setup, or does everything change?

Thanks again,

Everything changed.The 2.8,3.1,and 3.4 are all 60* V6's based on the same block and the 3.8 is a 90* V6.

yeah 3.8L is comepletely differentterritory...

but a 3.4L is a bored and stroked 3.1L. Block is the same but I think you have to do something with the flywheel.

I think www.tacreationsusa.com has a quick writeup about the parts you need, but warning you they suck as a company especially buying 3.4L parts or motors(bad experiences 3 times) Only reason why I ever consider them is they are about 30 min. form my parents house. So I could save on freight shipping.

Thanks for the info, guys.

I'll check out that link.

I was looking at putting an aftermaket cam in, but with desktop dyno I only could get 5 HP from going to the 216'/228' duration, .460"/.480" lift Crane cam from the stock cam (204'/216', .427"/.454"...so it's not really worth the effort and cost for me if that's all I'd get, especially since it showed a 10lbft torque loss. Anyone else put an aftermarket cam in? If so, what results did you see?

well you have to consider that the heads on the 3.1/3.4 are really really crappy. heavy as hell and dont flow for anything.

to take advantage of a cam, youd have to P&P the heads (or get aluminum heads and intake (more work than it sounds), and headers to go with it

so what sounds like a 180 - 200.00 job, becomes a 7-800.00 job. start with a 3.4 if you are gonna get a better engine. go from there. if you have any questions about the 2.8/3.1/3.4 you can email me anytime. email is in the profile

Some thing I know a lot about...

For a 92' camaro 3.1 to 3.4 swap like with a 2.8 to 3.4 swap you reuse every thing (all most).
You have a 92' so the fly wheel is good.
The only thing you will need not reuse is the 3.1L fuel injectors, get 3.4 injectors.
The temp sencor threds on the head are different at least when compairing 2.8 to 3.4 so it may or may not fit.
All the barackes, intake and water pump and every thing else goes on the 3.4.
And if you wanted to do a 3.8 or V8 swap you would need a different trans.
I know I left some stuff out so ask away.
