Post 96 3800 II noise

I have a 96 camaro with a 3800 II; I have only had it for about 6 weeks.

There is rattling noise from the motor. At idle it’s noticeable in the car, if I bring the rpm’s up to around 1k the noise almost goes away. It sounds like something is loose, I was thinking it was a pulley but I oiled all of them and it still did not go away. The alternator is newer, a least it still looks new.

Any ides would be great. Thanks

No offense but all you have really eliminated from the possibilities is the exhaust, a little more detail. Can you tell what area its coming from, what does it sound similar to?

i have the same problem and i think that it is something to do with a piece of the exhaust rattling. One solution, replace it!

I don’t think it’s an exhaust leak, I will check but it just does not have tick sound. It’s a rattling like thin metal taping against each other. Is there a heat shield around the manifolds? What about the transmission area? The car is stock, with 83,000 miles on it

Mine has a rattle. Its the exhaust shakin inside of another pipe right along the driveshaft. It doesnt sound like it has a leak but its loose. It does it in traffic when I let off of the gas the RPM's are around 1500. But if I hold it @ 3000 it goes away. Crawl under there and grab the pipe (cold of course) and move it side to side..just a thought.

Sounds like you need to replace the muffler bearing.

Wink

Well that’s the thing i already replace the muffler bearings (every 10k mi)

I drove the car last night and hooked up my autotap to it and i was getting knock bad!!! 7 degrees but I could not hear any noise/pinging coming from the engine. I am going to take a look at the plug and wires soon, test the plug wires for high ohm’s

Any other idea’s would be great
