I dont think he doubted it at all, I think he just needed to shut up laughing Mr. BMW in front of his G/F. And does it matter if its a 6 cylinder? I know alot of BMW 6 cylinders that can run pretty quick against muscle cars. Something to the tune of 13.1 1/4 mile stock, plus they are coming out with a new M engine for the Z4 that will run even better stock, possibly 12's. All 6 cylinders engines, not bad in my opinion. You never know, maybe he had N20 or a M 315 HP engine. Although I still think that most of the kill was on the driver not the car.
