Re: turbo lt1 vs. supra

I think a Turbo 400 can handle 600 horses...

Two-time USHRA World Champion Taurus the Bull is a 1997 GMC Pickup with Extended Front Clip. Powered by a 572 Donovan engine with Brodix Heads, an 871 blower, and a 400 Turbo Trans, the eleven foot high ten thousand pound monster produces more than 1600 horsepower. Taurus the Bull is considered one of the top billing names on today's monster truck circuit.

Maybe he had doubts about 600 hp from an STS turbo kit.

I am not questioning the strength of the TH-400, that would be stupid. But they are not known for their efficiency. It would take 750-800 hp at the engine to make 600 at the rears through a TH-400, and I don't see that happeneing with the STS kit.

Why not? I will tell you right off the bat that I know next to nothing about the STS turbo, so I'm NOT saying that it's possible. I would like to know why you think it can't happen with the STS turbo. Doesn't it, like most any turbo, have the ability to pump up boost to very high levels?

Re: turbo lt1 vs. supra

The STS turbo kit is far from a conventional turbo system. The turbo is ~10 feet away from the engine. It is mounted back where the muffler is supposed to be, and then the intake charge is sent back up underneath the car and into the engine. Since the turbo is so far away, it needs to be sized to work primarily on exhaust gas volume as opposed to the heat that would normally help spool a turbo. Because of this, they run seemingly small exhaust turbines to compensate. To get a 383 to 750 engine hp, you are talking some serious boost, and even greater with an STS kit. The STS kit is designed for stock or near stock cars, and not much past it. If it were a PTK kit, I would say hell yea! But the STS kit just wont flow the psi/cfm necessary to support those power levels.

Re: turbo lt1 vs. supra

say what you will about the sts kit. i worked for sts for about a year. i don't work for them now but i do still have their kit on my car. simply saying that i works very well. i attached a dyno chart the motor specs are on the chart. it was dyno'd at 11 psi. am i saying that the sts kit is the best turbo kit out, definently not! however it works and it is efficient, the easiest turbo kit to install on a 4th gen in my opinion i personaly have installed over 10 of these kits, i also have installed regular front mount turbo kits, and centrifical superchargers. i was procharger before my sts, personally i like my no headache sts turbo. i know that everyone has there opinion. this is just mine

how do i attach the dyno??? a little help please

I'm not commenting on the race, but A properly set up 383 could make 750 to the flywheel with about 12 -14 psi with something like a T76. I agree, maybe it will take more with a rear mounted turbo, but not a nice "conventional" setup.
