Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
I have an idea, lets stop all this BS talk about SRT-4's. Who cares! SRT-4's are alright, but not worth racing in my opinion. Maybe if you have a stock camaro and want to have some fun. I have never liked 4 bangers. But to each his own. Next subject.
Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
Some of you guys are so hung up on E.T.'s that it's starting to get pretty ridiculous. So what if Evan (God himself) Smith went a 12.xx? MOST LS1's are in the low to high 13 second range. Their trap speed is also in a range of say 103 to 107 MPH. Most stock SRT-4's run what, low 14's at ~ 100 MPH. Throw a few mods on either car and who knows. We can argue all day about a tenth here and three tenths there, but on the street and many times the track as well the actual E.T. is a small part of the race.
Hell, on the street there are so many variables it's not even funny. Truthfully, if you're only beating a guy by a length or 2 in the 1/4 then you really don't have much to boast about. If it it's buslengths then yeah, go around bragging about how you whooped the guy. I'm sure I'll catch hell for this, but if my car is only a tick or two faster than car X, big f'n deal. Maybe a modded STI or EVO will beat me by a few tenths in a drag race from a stop, but if we go from a roll maybe I'll be able to win. Trap speed is important too, ESPECIALLY on the street where MOST races begin from a roll, at least in my experience.
Here's what I'm trying to say. We can all sit here and bench race all we want, but it all comes down to the outcome of each individual encounter. At the speeds we're talking about(13-14 seconds at 100-107 MPH) there are a multitude of factors that will swing the race either way, regardless of what the magazine articles predict.

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
I can agree with that, I just didnt like the LS1 being quoted at 13.7 103mph. I think thats the very least a LS1 could pull 2.73's, A4 and a decent driver. Most run better than that IMO.

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
I agree My friend ran a 13.5 at 105 in his 1500 mile 2001 z28 a4 with 2.73, completely stock all the way down to the filter and tires. An LS1 doesn't get any worse a set up than that from factory
Its been proven over and over again that a six speed 01-02 SS can bust
F$#*ing high 12s with someone who can drive in 90 degree weather.
By the way these 4 bangers, in my IMO suck. Good kill

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
I kind of have a thing for SRT-4's. My gf's ex saw her riding in my Camaro a few years back and challenged me to a race in his srt-4. I was pretty much stock at that time, a cold air intake and Borla exhuast is all I had. He was talking a bunch of smack about me to her on the internet one night about how he would smoke me in my camaro and all this. Well we raced one night and he beat me by less then 1 car length. After that time I sweared I would vow revenge on him. So 2 years later after my car had gotten all the mods I have now I went looking for him. I was sad to find out he no longer had the car bc the dumbass got in a police chase and wrecked the car. I have raced a stock SRT-4 just like his tho and killed it by about 8 car lengths. So needless to say I get all worked up when I see one and cant help but want to smoke it. Sorry if u guys think my story is pointless but I just thought I would share it. Peace, Dustin.

That was a good story. Personally I would have explained to him that she got rid of him in the first place because he was trying to do the same "thing" with half the "size"
Good kill, you got the girl.

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
Good kill! The srt-4 isn't a bad car for the price. Before I bought mine I did alot of reseach on them. I didn't think I was going to like it.Me being a f-body owner but it's bad at all. They can be made fast cheap. Mopar stands by their stage kits by not voiding the factory warranty.I went to the track and watched alot of them run high 13's with minor bolt ons with street tires. For a 4banger 4door car they run pretty good. Two years ago I never saw myself driveing a neon. Just thought I would chime in,me being a owner of both a 97Z and a 05 srt-4.
