Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
some of you are stupid ****s, not every single car is gonna run the same time. there is such thing as different tracks, elevation, driver, condition of the car, ect. just because some magazine ran a certain time or your freind, doesnt mean they all run that time.
Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
here's my experiences with an SRT4 (yesterday at the track). I just got my exhaust and headers done, and asked my buddy to take it for a run so that I could hear what it sounded like from the grandstands. I told him not to go for any records (i.e. no burnout, no powershifting, take it easy off the line, shift at 5500 rpm etc - Dont break it! i just want to hear how it sounds)
A guy with a srt-4 was about to park his car when he saw mine go out, and he immediately goes back to the staging area to line up with my car. I was thinking.. oh damn.. he is going to beat up on my poor car in front of everyone. My buddy out launches him, but the srt has better top end an is catching up to my car.. however, my friend is able to fend him off with a 13.75 @ 104.5 to 13.9 @ 106. woohoo! I spoke with the owner after, and he had an intake, 3" exhaust, computer and boost controller.

NO power-producing modification is warrantied on a Subaru. They'll sell you a shifter & pedals but good luck on any ECU mods. Many dealerships do offer aftermarket tuning but they are not covered by Subaru.
Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
SRT-4's are variable. The can run decent stock, but most people who I have met who have them automatically up their boost and call it stock. Same with many other Turbo guys I know. Many think stock turbo means stock.
I raced one, turned up boost, and a bunch of other mods and beat him with just LT's, CAI, GMMG, and Madwolf tune. Suprisingly this was from a 25mph roll.
What ever you do just dont call it a NEON

Let me start off by saying I dont appreciate being called a stupid ***, if you we're suggesting that toward me. The fact of the matter is, Car and Drive DID rate the 2005 Lancer Evolution at 13.2 and from personal experience I will tell u they do run damn close to that time. If I am not mistakin, that is as fast or faster then most stock LS1 camaro's I have seen, especially autos.
Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
well, first hand info on a few things...
the SRT-4 can be made to go fast/quick for a small amount of $...been handed my butt on more than 1 occasion in both my vette and Sti (which is awesome for what it is....a neon...)(big props to dodge)
and I hear alot of stats flyin around and stock this and stock that...here are the book #s on a few cars
STi . .... . 2000 camaro z28. .2003 lancer evo
0-60 4.9sec . . 0-60 5.3sec . . 0-60 5.0sec
1/4 13.2@103 . . 1/4 13.7@103 . .1/4 13.6@101
so take that for what it's worth....they are all adequate cars in a str8 line stock. But i will make 2 other generalizations about these cars...
1. The v-8 is ALOT easier to make HUGE hp#s and make great strip cars (there is a relatively low ceiling for the 4-bangers)
2. I would take an evo/sti any day for anything other than a str8 line (ie...auto-x....hence the reason there are only EVOs and STIs at the top of A-stock)
But these are book #'s and stock for stock in the case of a lightly modded srt-4,stock Z, stock STi, Stock evo....it's a drivers race
just some info and observations from someone thats had the privilege of both worlds

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
I wish LS1's ran 13.7's stock. I also think it would be fair to compare SS's to the top models in each other classifcation. I have many documentations of SS's running 12's stock to the rubber on Hot days and stock Z/28's easily running low 13's. One with the 12 second SS is from a Mustang Mag. Driver's are a big part of a race though.
I also never thought STI's were faster than EVO's.

And yeah STI's make around 300hp at the crank vs. 289 for the EVO. EVO's a tad lighter though. In a straight line the STI would edge it out pretty much every time, but if you've got a rally or road course, they're evenly matched.

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
Lets compare manual to manual. Most manual LS1's I see with a decent driver trap well over 103mph with ET's in the low 13's easily. I dont think the 13.7 @ 103 represents the LS1 much if at all. When speaking of top cars in a specific model I think its fair to compare all top cars. Including the SS. The SS's I have seen run easily low 13's with better than average drivers pulling 12's. I dont just read magazines and take much of what is printed as, at best, partial fact. But you cant just throw a LS1 into 13.7 @ 103. At least not in my book.

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
and I can show you a vega that runs 6s
my point here is....whats a tenth either way...the cars are pretty even in a str8 line (stock for stock) and it usually comes down to the driver (i've seen cars with a full second swing between drivers in back to back runs)

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
what the heck was
for.....
at 13 seconds...a tenth either way is nothing....now...if your talking a race car...thats a different story...but we're not...we're talkin stock street cars here

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.
More like 2-3-4-5-6-7-8 tenths underrated depending on the specific model. There are always exceptions to the rule, but under normal circumstances LS1's trap well over 103 and faster than 13.7 With a decent 60' and 104-107mph trap speed your easily talking low 13's high 12's.
