Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.

I think by turbo you are fogetting the stuff from Germany like porche turbos and mercedes turbos..technically imports as well.
But stock dsm ,srt 4 and wrx are hardly a match for ls1 and by bone stock mean bone stock boost. STI is fast and can launch hard on street tires with the awd.

I beat him up until about 80mph or so them i let off because there was a turn in the road and a bumpy bridge so he does an infamous ricer fly-by thinking that he beat me. So i pull up next to him and we go from about a 60mph roll. I beat him pretty badly. So i let him catch up and i ask him what stage it was and he says 0 so im guessing it was just a Stage 1. Also he made some lame excuss about not being able to hold boost or something. So we race one more time. This time from about a 55mph roll. He was brake-boosting, we both took off and he was about a car lenght behind me then my radar detector starts going crazy so i get on the brakes real quick. Thats the first SRT-4 ive ran into. Does this sound about right with my mods.
nice kill, does your radar work good? was it even worth buying? ( sorry for going off topic)

I've been building imports since 1992 (before it was "cool and trendy") so I know what's offered. I've had a half dozen DSMs, 2 Stealths, and I built my brother's Supra (11.7 @ 124 on a test run @ 19 psi).

BTW, a quick search netted 13.9 @ 100 for the RX7 R2; barely ahead of the "slow" SRT4. Supras run ~ 13.6 - 13.8 which is a few tenths behind a good-performing LS1. I've seen many stock LS1s turn 13.1-13.2 @ 106-109 mph. That kind of mph is really moving for a stock car. It's faster than many respectably modded cars from the previous 20 years.

They are the undisputed bang-for-the-buck winner and GM was stupid for killing them off. They'd be selling 400hp 6 liter F-bodies as fast as they could make them.
Where do you guys get these specs from? Car and driver ran a 13.6 on the 93 Rx-7 R1, if a stock FD (non touring model) is running 14's then it has some serious driver issues.

Ahh benchracing, I love it...where did you get that time from motortrend or car and driver. Next time you get your times try getting them from something other then a magazine. If that was the case the fastest LS1's would run stock would be mid to high 13's..Your nieve and in denial to say that a stock srt-4 hasnt run a high 13 stock.. Go race one w/ a few mods then come back and tell there "slow"

Yea the radar detector works really well. I dont leave home without it, especially with the cops around here. I think it even came with some kind of warranty that if you get a ticket while using the detector they will pay for it. Im sure other conditions must be meet but yeah i havent been pulled over yet. Knock on wood. This thing has saved me so many times.

First off i've owned 4 Rx-7's in the past two which happened to be FD's and if my amateur *** could run high 13's in my old 94 R2 during the middle of the summer then imagine what a decent driver could do.

Secondly, i know people with srt-4's that only get a low 14 on a good day. Any car can be fast when modded so lets not start the "if my car had this and this it would be mad quick yo" We are talking stock vs stock, i've been around rotary engines my whole life, my dad worked for racing beat in the 80's and early 90's so please don't even try to make b/s numbers up for them.

I have a guy at work that says the same thing. The best he's ran since the Stage 2 upgrade is a 13.8x @ 101 MPH. He installed the Stage 2 a couple of months ago, but he claims it isn't running right. I would hope the Stage 2 would pick up more than a couple of tenths and a couple of MPH. Hopefully he'll get it fixed soon so we can have a real race for once. Every day I talk to him it's excuses piled on top of excuses, and I'm curious to see what it'll really do once it's running right.

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.

gotta love the generic "stages" they give cars, and how vague they are in actually divulging what those "stages" include.

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.

The stages for the SRT4 are very specific packages sold by the service dept. They also don't affect the warranty.

Every other car's "staged" mods are crap, with all kinds of varying "stages" usually based on whatever vendor you bought the parts from.

That would be a negative. Unless you pay off the dealer on the side. Even the writeups on the car state that the additional stages will negate the factory warranty.

No you are right, subaru offers the same deal with the STI and wrx stage2 kit which dosen't void the warranty, scion has the same deal with their cars if you wish to add a TRD supercharger.

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.

I've raced amd beat a few ls1's(an almost stock ss, headered z, and a almost stock z), and they gotta be mid to high 13's. I'm not sure what my car runs because the one time I was going to the track emissions notice came so i had to make it pass and havnt had time to put it back the way it was. but, anyway i raced a stock srt4 and won raced a mild modded one(my friend's) and got killed so as that one guy said its not about the car stock its about what its like afterward.

"But it's a ****ing neon."

I hear that all around here.

Re: Ran into an SRT-4 tonight.

I don't think a turbo car has been produced yet that was as fast as the LS1 cars are stock. It's what happens after they're not stock that makes people buy that kind of car.[/QUOTE]

The 2005 Lancer Evolution would like to have a word with u. Ask me how I know. Car and Driver rated them at about 13.2 bone stock. I raced one a few weeks ago and let me tell u, it wasnt an easy win. Peace, Dustin
