I would be willing to bet that a CAI does add close to 10rwhp provided it was a good one such as a K&N. Changing to synthetic motor oil may not gain u 10rwhp but it will help the engine, tranny, and rear end perform better which in turn gives u better track times and if changing to sythetics was to net u close to a 1/10 of a second off your times then that would be equivelant to 10 hp. I am not trying to claim ricer boy antics, just trying to make some since out of what I have heard from others.

 

Ok here goes. As you remember the game is- Take $4000, buy a Honda with it, buy whatever mods you need to run a 13.3 quarter mile or better. If you can't do it for $4000 or under, you lose. No weight reduction, and all part, labor and shipping costs incurred must be included........

Here's one of the only Civics in my area that I could find. I'll take off $900 from the advertised price because it has new paint and that has no bearing on performance- So we'll say price of car= $2000.

Here's your motor- JDM B16 It's $1500. The price does not include shipping. The motor unfortunately has an auto trans, but that's the only motor that came up when I typed "B16 swap" into an ebay search. I tried B18 but the price was much higher and went over the budget I specified.

So let's see, you have a well worn 1994 Civic, an automatic equipped B16, plus shipping looks like about $3700 and you're still in the 15's You have $300 to pick up 1.7+ seconds in the quarter. You still have an open differential, and whatever crappy old lady tires came on the Civic to begin with, and you can't take any interior out of the car. Game over.

You could take a used Honda Civic that runs 16s stock for about $3000. Add a BIG shot of nitrous and slicks and I bet you could bust a 13.3. The 4 hampsters would probably sh*t their guts out in a pass or two, though.

 

Steve Y, are you crapping out on me? lol. You could put a huge shot on that thing, don't forget the upgraded fuel pump, colder plugs. Plus I'm not so sure that even a huge shot would drop almost 3 seconds without some traction on those cars. But hey that's just how I see it......

You want "REAL" claims, yet you disregard dyno tested gains... Hmm, what kind of "REAL" claims are you talking about, since dyno tests are apparently not good enough? Apparently, you think your claim that full synthetics are only worth 1 to 2 horses is "REAL" enough, yet my link that talks about a DYNO test isn't. How is your claim more "REAL" than mine?

For CAIs gaining 10 horses, I would have told you about my own 1/10th ET gain after a CAI on my '95 Z28, but figured you wanted real dyno evidence, but apparently that isn't real enough, but your hollow opinion is. Oh, since when isn't a lid a CAI, or is it you simply want to discount them because you know they're a solid 10+ Hp gain?

Lastly, speaking of "REAL" claims -- you once claimed, "synthetic fluids will not give you 5-10 rwhp. Maybe 1 or 2 if that. Sort of like most CAI, which are worthless" and I've asked you more than once for some EVIDENCE of your claim. I've provided at least *some* evidence to back up my claim. Can you do the same to back up your claim, or at least have the ***** enough to admit that you can't? All you seem to be able to do thus far is try and discredit a magazine article that gives actual dyno results, saying that they are bogus, yet having absolutely no evidence whatsoever that they cooked the numbers.

Is this a full interior, A/C, stereo, etc. vehicle? On pump gas and stock tires? If so, what does it involve? I assume it's some sort of motor swap and turbo addition, but is this another stock Honda motor, or do you have to add an aftermarket turbo? Is this also assuming all the work (except motor machining) is done by me?
