LT1 vs LT1
What you are not understanding is you want to run the lowest octane fuel that your motor will allow without knock...that said, I do not know one LT1 or LS1 owner that runs anything less than medium grade. Once you go forced induction or nitrous, why would you even want to chance it?
The only cars that I know of that run well and use 87 octance are the new Mustang GT's and there is no audible pre-detonation in the cars stock.

The problem only becomes a true problem when the PCM can't pull enough timing to prevent detonation. Having knock retard is not a bad thing, it's a very good thing cause that's what's saving your motor. Now, having TOO much knock is stupid, and running the car too hard with even a small amount of knock also is not good because of spikes in KR. What most people don't know is that almost ALL cars come from the factory showing KR.
Trust me I know all about Knock and detonation from my last car. It was supercharged with alcohol injection.

So basically you admin that 87 will cause knock retard during a race...Next question: why the **** would you want to race w/ knock retard? Do you think the advantages of running 87 outweigh the power loss of knock retard? I sure hope not.
I AM NOT MY BROTHER!!!! I DO NOT USE 87 IN MY CAR. I DID ONCE AND I NEVER WENT WOT. STOP ASKING WHY I DO IT, I DO NOT!!!!!!!!!!
Do you get it yet? I don't do it. Do you get it? Two different people.
Apparently somone doesn't use 87.
