LT1 vs LT1
LT1 vs LT1
Raced my brother last week, never posted it.
His mods and car:
96 Formula. OEM ram air (gutted), 3.23s, Pacesetter LTs--->flowmaster catback, drag radials
My mods and car:
97 Trans Am. OEM ram air, 3.42s, 3200 stall, tune, street tires
I pulled pretty good at first (til 50) and we stayed at the same place til 70 and then he pulled back up to me. We were about even at the 1/4 mark and he kept flying past me.
Basically if I had DRs I would have beat him in the 1/4 or at the track, but in the street he has me beat. Especially from a roll and up top.
There are talks of him running 91 octane as opposed to the 87 he was on and I'll open my cutout. I think the outcome won't change at all.
But if/when we do... HD VIDEO!

I pumped up the tires. They were at 12psi. Now they are at 30. I know with the 91 it will help. By how much, I don't know. Maybe a tenth. We will leave nothing on the table. All out ***** to the wall nasty angry badass speed.
Its not going to produce a 'larger' explosion than 93, its just going to combust at a lower temperature.
How that makes more power is beyond me. Then again if thats true why the hell do we have race gas? Oh yeah thats because higher compression motors/FI will detonate. Even a stock LT1 will pull knock timing on a long enough WOT run w/ 87(you will never hear it knock so you would never know)..Unless you have a scanner I bet your car is pulling timing. Which is exactly why even the GM manual says 'for best performance use premium'. Even ION from MadZ28 told me when I asked him if it was 'ok' to run regular he stated that it was fine as long as you don't run high RPMs for a while - implying that timing will be pulled/knock retard.
In the end I have no idea where you are coming from...explain please:
The only cars that I know of that run well and use 87 octance are the new Mustang GT's and there is no audible pre-detonation in the cars stock.
