Re: lt1 beats mercedes

Why would you want to race some sedan anyway Im sorry, but that like racing a pickup truck cause bubba says hes faster. Maybe its just a personal preference thing. And if this guy wants to go fast looks like he went to the wrong dealership back when he bought his family sedan. Laughable man!

Most bubbas in pickup trucks would be in the 16s and 17s...

If I lost to a stock or near stock LT1, at high speed especially, you are well aware that it would be by a relatively narrow margin. Not like when you show bubba for the first time that just because he has 4x4 and a loud exhaust note that doesn't mean he can actually hang with an f-body (yes I had to do that a couple times too when I had my Z28).

And I didn't buy my GS4 to race. I bought it to be a reliable and comfortable daily driver that was fast and sporty enough to keep me happy.

This whole topic came up a year ago when somebody said he raced one twice and got beat and everybody was up in arms (just like now) about how that couldn't be possible. I just came in and said "well, I've got one and I don't think I would win off the line, but it'd be close enough". Then all hell broke lose and I became the target.

So you know what's laughable? The fact that people are so unwilling to accept that a 300hp sedan could possibly be quick enough to hang with an f-body... just because it's got a luxury brand on the hood and 4 doors instead of 2.

I've never been to midnight madness... what's the difference between it and test-n-tune? Unfortunately that's not going to let us get a high speed run in, but I understand that's illegal and dangerous so we may never get to try that out.

Re: lt1 beats mercedes

as a former owner of a then new 2002 c230 i can say the benz is all about the ride, comfort, and quiet interior...

as for not racing a 4 door... most people don't look @ my 11.8 @ 122mph (98mph in the 1/8 mile) galant as anything other than a nice looking 91 galant... heck it even has pirelli p6000 tires on it (and ran @ the track with them on it, with full interior)... so there are no dead give-a-ways that it's fast... this "stealth" allows me to pick who i want to race

next year i hope to run 10s with the boost turned up from the 25psi it was on to get into the 11's... the car has no cage so i'm going to get booted...

Well I would hope a ~60k luxary sedan could keep up with one of the best bang for the buck cars ever stock for stock. In the end, both cars are at opposite ends of the spectrum, and you will have complete different buyers/drivers in each. We all love to race, no matter what we are in!

I assume you're talking about my car since the Mercedes is a coupe and costs more like 85k, but my car new was just under 50k, although I bought it used w/ 30k miles on it from a wholesaler for a nice chunk o' savings.

Speaking of price, the LT1 Vette, when new, cost right around what my car cost when new, and it's still not that much faster than the LT1 f-body, it just handles better, has more features, and is built a little better. So for the extra $$ you really aren't getting much extra speed.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. Heck... the next car I get I plan to be a C5 or C6 - I want one BAD. But I guess I'm just saying that paying twice the $$ for a doesn't always equate to it being faster. There's plenty of other desirable qualities that a car can gain as its price point increases. I guess it's just a question of whether you care about those qualities or not as to whether you'd even consider it worth the price.

Yup... I agree. Heck, back when I had my 1990 Ford Taurus I used to race people all the time. I lost 19 out of 20 times, but it was still fun and that's why I wanted to race, not because I thought my car was 'intended' to race. But just because I could.

Not to get back on track or anything, but also watch out for the E55 AMG...I know they are 80K, but I've got a friend (old retired car guy, who always wanted a Mercedes and also has an LPE Corvette) who just got one and went 12.30s @ 117 bone stock with the temp tag still on. There's also a local guy to MD who runs one in the 10.90 range. Call them what you want, but its pretty cool to see a luxo 4000 lb touring car doing 10s. I can think of better ways to spend 80K, but I'm never going to have that problem...
