I raced one on the highway twice, the guy did about the same thing. I passed him normally then I guess I hurt his lil feelings. I put the beat down on him hard from 65mph up to the 100's.

I have won many races were according to "top end" theory from a roll I should have lost. SRT4, LS1, Cobra, Lightning. I think the LT1's top end deserves a bit more repect than what it usually gets.

Yes, people act like the LT1 only makes power up to 2500 RPM.

So I guess, ya know, you don't have to take my word for it, but I think might be a bit more qualified than you to answer that question.

First of all, no.
Second of all, I can count on 1 hand how many times I've been pulled by a "sports sedan" on the freeway, and I don't even need to use any fingers. Even when my car was mostly bolt-on free, I never had a problem with that car. I can't say specifically the GS4 or whatever, although I am 100% certain that more than 1 Lexus has gotten familiar with my taillights. It was even worse at the track.

How many passes at a track have you made in your car? Do you have any times? How about a trap speed? When I was a Catback + CAI only car, I trapped 102. Judging by your other posts about your experiences with Fbodies, I'd say you picked up a crappy one. Unless you bought it brand new, you have no idea what was done to it before it was in your hands. I can tell you for sure that if these cars aren't maintained they fall to **** REAL fast. You have to admit that there is a strong possibility that the car you owned was a DOG.

If you're ever in the area, I'll show you what a full bolt on LT1 is like up top, from any speed you wanna go. My best trap is 106.01.

Re: lt1 beats mercedes

Well you might wanna consider that weight has almost no effect at high speeds, especially considering their's only 150 or so pounds difference between my car and an LT1.

So the main factors are gearing:
advantage my car when compared to an A4 at high speeds, when compared to an M6 I lose the advantage
Aerodynamics:
My car has a .28 Cd, though greater frontal area, all in all it works out to be about even or slightly in my favor from calcs I've done in the past
Power:
I've got the slight advantage there as well (300hp, 325tq)

So maintain denial all you want but it's completely possible.

Sure thing... I guess it'd be the easier than driving to cali.

Heck... if you wanna meet up at Memphis motorsports park I'll do that too... but the large majority of that race would be under 80 where you have the advantage so I doubt I could pull a win (especially since you've got mods), although we might be able to see if you can continue pulling on me in the higher mph range.

Re: lt1 beats mercedes

Yeah I put the video in my sig because I've had this discussion once before and even asked if anyone in the Memphis area with a stock or lightly modded LT1 wanted to run - I'd run on the track and on the highway and do it on video if wanted. I got some people who acted like they were up for it but when we got to PMs and I tried to set something up they got cold feet.

I've ran my car twice ever and only managed a 14.7 @ 97 - we've got a pretty slow track here, though. I still don't think I'd keep up with a properly driven LT1... that's why I'm saying after 80 I'll pull.

Re: lt1 beats mercedes

No disrespect man, but the guy who hosted that video even said that the guy in the Lex got a major jump on him, and said he was reeling him in toward the end, but the race was over. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how you're getting that you will pull an LT1 over 80. I just don't see it happening. Oh, and its commonly been noted that all LT1's have been the same exact motor since it debuted in the Corvette, with an even 300HP, 325TQ. Though on a far smaller scale, the LT1 was also underrated from the factory like the LS1.

Trapping 97 != stock LT1 trap speeds, auto or manual. What were other LT1's trapping at your track? Even at the crappy track I used to go to at ~4000 ft. I never trapped lower than 99.

I have yet to see a completely stock LT1 hit 100 or above at my track, actually... low 14s is the best I've seen. High 14s is very common. Some low 15s here and there when the car isn't running right or the driver isn't too hot.

Again, I'm not saying it's necessarily competetive in the 1/4-mile, while I have seen plenty of stock LT1s run times as slow or even slower than mine, I'm sure I just haven't seen the right driver yet. Most of the magazines and 'good' racers on 'good' tracks with 'good' conditions in GS400s and GS430s (there is no performance difference between the two at all; actually some say the 400 is a hair quicker) will run 14.0-14.3 @ ~99-100. But have I run that? No, so I won't claim it. Do I see stock LT1s trapping consistant 13.9s and 14.0s at my track? No. So I won't claim it either.

I guess what I'm getting at is my car ran slower than it was "supposed to" according to magazines and internet times, but then again so have most of the f-bodies, SRT4s, etc that I've seen run at our track, so I would take my 14.7 with a grain of salt.
