Angry LS1 Beat My Friends 396 LT1

A couple friends of mine raced 1/8th mile (actually a little shorter than 1/8 mile) last Friday night best 2 out of 3 at a local street drag and the LS1 ended up winning the 1st 2, didn't ven go into a 3rd race. LT1 is a 396 with trickflows and full bolt ons, Kooker LTs, ORY, Borla open, full suspension, M/T DRs, 12 bolt, TH350, 3600 stall, yadda, yadda, yadda. The LS1 has Hooker LTs, ORY, Magnaflow catback, Granetelli (SP) lid, hot cam??, and Nitto DRs.

Kinda suck since the guy with the 396 has about $50K into his car and the guy with the LS1 just bought it as is sits a few months ago for about $9,500.

The only thing that helped the LS1 win is he wasn't overpowering the track which was slick and my buddy with the LT1 was spinning the whole track feathering it. The LT1 was running low 12s on motor with the heads and cam that I now have and high 10s on spray and the guy with the LS1 would probably be lucky to pull off a low 13 pass (driver mod)

Just thought I'd share my pointless story, but it just goes to show you that you may have the faster car, but if you can't plant the power its really hard to make up ground in that short of a race.

I was going to take my camera, but the battery was dead so no vid but mabye next month I'll get it on tape

Sounds like two bad drivers. Or bad modders.

No the guy with the LT1 is a really good driver, but he had mismatched motor parts when he was putting down those times above, now the car is just insane. Probably a low 11 on motor and possibly high 9s or really low 10 with his new setup. The thing is that his car hooks better on the street than at the track that they were at last weekend. Its just a local thing, and they have the races setup on the front straight of their oval track so you have a little less than 1/8 of a mile race and then a sharp left on a slick track.

The guy with the LS1 on the other hand isn't that good at driving at all, and its his first quick car and I think its just a matter of time before he wrecks it but thats just me.

Seems strange because I used to race a guy at school who had a '99 SS 6-spd with LT's, ORY and a full cat-back. This was when I just had Hooker LT's, 3.73's, CAI and a catback. I would smoke him off the line and still have him by half a car length at 80 mph when we let off.

My 13.10 run was spinning for the first 50', posting a 2.3 60' time. Lost to a 67 Mustang with 427 in it by 1/2 car length.

If a REAL driver was behind the wheel, it probably would've broke the 12s. But with me driving, I have this penchant for wanting to be able to drive the car home afterwards.

Yeah I agree, but when you have a 3600 stall behind the motor that my buddy has on 275/40 M/T DRs its really hard to hook, at that track anyway. And the guy with the LS1 is an auto with 275/40 Nitto DRs. But they have to run a street tire at that track, no full drag slicks otherwire it would have probably been a completely different story. On the street the LT1 has the LS1 by at least 4 cars

I think they are going to the test and tune in a few weeks at the track in Evansville, IA (I think thats the town) and if they do I'll be going down to get some of their passes on tape and mabye get some shake down runs with my car
