SHO vs. 'Stang and STI
Been a while since I posted...
I was on my way home two days ago and saw a '96 or so 4.6 GT playing with a 03 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. The Pontiac was stuck in the left lane and wouldn't go faster than 85 (Traffic was going 80), so the GT went into the 'Slow' lane where nobody was and I would up right behind him. We cleared the traffic and had a nice stretch ahead of us. I was in fourth, he was several car lengths ahead of me. I never downshifted, and was almost hitting his bumper at 110 when he flashed his lights. Fun run, but I would have passed him if I had gone to third.
Last night, I wound up behind an STI (Stock exhaust) on a two-lane highway. Of course, there are driveways and roads intersecting this road, but it is usually calm, even for the evening commute. Anyway, once the traffic in front cleared (Last one was a Honda Mini-Van that was doing 5 MPH for 100+ feet before it turned off), we both hit it, me in first. The STI gradually pulled me - About the same as the S4 that I ran into a couple of years ago. We shut it down at 70 due to traffic, but had another shot about a mile up the road when the traffic cleared. This was a longer run, and we duplicated the results. Overall, he gained about 1.5 to 2 car lengths 10-100.
Lots of fun to end the day with!

P.S. The STI did puff black smoke at each shift, so I know he was pushing it.
