Talking Irwindale 1/8th mile

Went to Irwindale this last weekend, for the first time in a year to try out my car. Due to health issues, I hadn't ran the car for over a year. During practice I lined up with a 2nd gen, gutted, and tubbed Camaro running 6.8 to my 7.2. I figured that I was going toget a whole can of whup *** handed to me. We did our burnout and lined up. I cut a .530 light to his
.932 light. Managed to beat him to the finish by 11 thousandths of a second. When we got back to the staging lanes, the guy jumps out, and looks at my car with the slicks mounted on stock salad shooters, and the bra still on the front, and said ( I wasn't expecting that !!!). I told him it was a sleeper, and that it generally will suck them in for at least the first round. Went 3 rounds in eliminations, when I got match against a Dodge Polara. His dial in was 7.32 to my 7.22. We lauch with his .530 reaction to my .550 . Couldn't catch him, but what really sucks is at the finish line his car blows the driveshaft, and were both out. Needed one more round to be in the money. Sometime drag racing can be a real drag. Had a good time, and though I used to cut better lights, figured that I didn't do to bad for an old guy, that hadn't done it for over a year. Kevin.

Your car is fast. Do you pass emissions in ca? Or are you running forced induction or NOS?

Talking

1996 Camaro Z28, Ford 9", custom built driveshaft, V-6 rear springs, Qa-1 12 way adjustable shocks, Sphon lower control arms torque arm and driveshaft loop, subframe connectors, and 6 point rollbar. 5 point harness ,,fire jacket ,Helmet, bottle heater, and all Msd electrical. And the list goes on, and the list goes on.

Engine: was built on a budget. Speed-o-motive in Covina did the machine work for me after I tore everything apart, and brought it down to them in boxes. Bored and stroked 391 ci all forged for nitrous.Stock heads with stock valves, compression around 11.5, Stock pushrods, oil pump, and oil pan. Cam is the Lt-4 hot cam 218,228 duration? with .525 lift. 1.6 roller rockers, and stock original Hydruailic lifters.Stock valve covers. Running thru the original cats, and with a cutout in the back. PCM for less did the mail order tune on the computer. The cam I got from a vendor here, from Florida, for half the price you could get here in Calif. I wanted to go bigger on the cam, and other things, but meeting Calif. smog was my goal, and trying to run high 10's.

I can pass Cal. smog, on the motor I can run low 12's. With a 125 shot of nitrous I can run low 11's, and though I don't give it the bigger shot to often, I have run 10.80's in the quarter mile on Hooiser 28x11.00x16 on stock salad shooter wheels. Normally I run my ET street 26x11.00x16 for bracket racing. I'm proud of my car as I would run in the money brackets against the rumpity rump older cars in the pro street class. I leave the bra on, so when they look over all they see is a stock Camaro. The car will usually run consistant, and always run within a few hundreths of a second on every pass. Providing I due my job.

The tranny is the original 6 speed, never been gone thru, with the Mc Cloud twin disc, and currently the aluminum flywheel. Car gets around 20 mpg going to work up and down the hill, all air, cruise control hooked up. Car weighs around 3750lbs, with me in it. I'm sure there is more, and some people will say I can't do this, the cam not big enough, I don't have all the other fancy parts, but this is what it is. I don't drive it on the street to much, cause I really like my car, and it still looks like it did in 1996, and it seems like everybody is aimming for it. So I'm real protective of it.

I live in glendora and I dont think I ever seen you. Your car Is putting out some great times. But I think if you got a a4 trans from cpt with a 3500 stall you will get much better times.

Hi Glendora, I live in the Hesperia. That is the only thing that I wished that I had gotten when I bought my car was the auto. I jam gears for a living, and I swore that I would never have another stick. But its fun slamming gears when I've had people walk up, thinking it was an auto, then be shock when they see the stick. My car is red, black bra, and stock salad shooter wheels. I'll drive it down to San Dimas to visit my parents, then back home. License plate is 1 BadFNZ. You'd see the car, and may think nice stocker, you'd never suspect.

Nice tag

I admit, you'd probably trick me too, and I love sleepers!

I ran my fastest 1/8th mile ever (in my Stealth) vs. a trailered car. He won by 2 tenths just like in your case - he got it at the tree and I couldn't make any of it up. I told him his car made me drive my best but he was so pissed that "just an import" on normal tires stayed on his bumper he didn't say anything else.
