I don't know where you've been, but lack of sales is the primary reason why the Fbody died:
"GM officially announced on Sept. 25 its plans to discontinue both the Chevy Camaro and Poniac Firebird. The company is also closing the plant in Ste. Therese, Quebec, where the two cars are produced. John Middlebrooke, GM's vice president and general manager for vehicle brand marketing and corporate advertising, said the decision was unavoidable. He said the main reason was the decrease in sales of the regular sports car, which are down 53 percent from 1990." -- emphasis mine.

"According to GM vice president vehicle brand marketing John Middlebrook (a real car guy and Camaro enthusiast who once ran Chevrolet Div.), the combination of significantly reduced demand in the sporty coupe segment—down 53 percent from 1990 to 2000—and substantial excess manufacturing capacity made this decision "unavoidable."

again!
Re: Black00SS, I just called the Z06 dealership!
Other stuff aside....
....could you please point me to some data that states, or even implies, the Ford was going after the Z06 with the 2003/2004 Cobra?
Thanks.

jackass.GM killed the fbody because they needed to. instead of me typing out the entire damn story again why not try searching our very own 5th gen forum here. or hell, its already been nicely compiled into a PRINTED article in the new Popular Hot Rodding.
Bob, i could have sworn i read in an older MM&FF when the 03 first came out that fords target was the z06...it made sense i thought because they wouldnt need a 390hp fighter for a car that isnt even competing. maybe i AM wrong on that part?

"Publicly, GM blamed slow sales, a deteriorated sports coupe market, and plant overcapacity."
from http://www.popularhotrodding.com/fea...409phr_camaro/
So what's your evidence in th PHR article that it was something else? Later in the same article:
"Seems Camaro could have continued with simply a new model. What happened?
GM isn't willingly giving out information on this, but there's been a lot of speculation over the past couple of years, ranging from the pretty logical to the somewhat bizarre. On various internet sites, disgruntled fans post everything from "GM wanted to make trucks instead" to "GM didn't care about the car" or that GM's Brand Management from outside the auto industry had little to no experience."
SPECULATION... IOW, nothing more than Internet rumor central.
The funny thing is that the part that you thought you were right about was incorrect, and the part that you thought you might be wrong about ('03 Cobra target being the Z06) was what you were *right* about, or at least one can come to a reasonable conclusion based on Ford comments:
“The 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra is a true performance value,” said Tom Scarpello, Ford SVT sales and marketing manager. “The next closest competitor to meet or exceed the SVT Cobra’s 390 horsepower costs over $50,000.” [hmm... $50K, I wonder what car he's referring to?
