Black00SS, I just called the Z06 dealership!
Re: Black00SS, I just called the Z06 dealership!
It took me all of 3 minutes to call information and call Chuck. 3 minutes is too much time to waste to prove someone wrong? Not for me, when it's Black00SS.
If everybody would prove bsing morons wrong, every single time, we would hardly have any.

Re: Black00SS, I just called the Z06 dealership!
funny thing though, I was actually hoping he wasn't BS'ing on the Vette 'cause that means I could really pick up a good LS1 for 8 grand from that dealership!
Re: Black00SS, I just called the Z06 dealership!
Regular '99-00 vettes sell for $23-27K around here in New England so I thought it was a little funny when he said a '02 Z06 was $27k.I remember seeing an '01 Z06 a few months ago for sale for $33k.
Comparing a 2 seat sports car to a 4 seat muscle car is kind of hard(Corvettes are not considerd muscle cars).
Remember Ford does have a 2 seater that can blow the Z06(and viper) into the weeds. The Ford GT.
Ford is'nt trying to compete with 'vete with the mustang. They were competing with the f body in sales in which sales for the f body were so poor the stopped making them.
It does'nt matter to me because even if I lifted at half track in my '88 Saleen I would still blow both there doors off by over a second.(last week I broke a blower belt at half track a coasted to a 10.4@98mph)

Re: Black00SS, I just called the Z06 dealership!
How many Ford GT's do you think you are going to see running around the streets? Comparing a Z06 to a car like that is ridiculous. I saw a test in a magazine where the GT went head to head with some of the European supercars and blew them away, so it is an amazing "race" car. Also you would have to have Donald Trump's bank account to own one.

Is this a daily driver, like my Z06, or are you comparing what is essentially a track only car to a daily driver?
What's wonderful about my car is that it does 12's, corners like it's on rails, gets 27+ MPG on the highway (21.5 current overall MPG) AND insurance is cheaper than my previous '95 Z28.

The differnce between a new Cobra and new Vette is roughly $15k.You could take a few thousand of that and upgrade the blower and a few other cheap bolt ons and make close to 600rwhp.
my '88 is not a daily driver but its a street car. The car is 100% stock outside (besides drag wheels),100% of the orginal interior is still in it. I only added gauges,5 point seatbelt,8 point cage and a window net.The engine is a 310 inch motor, twisted wedge heads, hydralic cam,and a Novi 2000. Its a very streetable combo.I ran the car in true street before were you have to drive for 30 miles on the street before you race. Its made 686rwhp and 652rwt.So far its gone 9.68 with and best mph is 146.18.The car may not handle that well any more but since 99% off street races are straight line it does'nt really matter if you car hadles that good.
My daily driver is the T/A in my sig. With the mods I have I should be able to run 12's also. The daily driver had before that was a '89 Steeda (real) that ran 12.5's N/A on street tires and got 21mpg.

But to bring in the GT... well, you might as well say an Enzo or Pagani Zonda. You're probably as likey to race any of them, which is to say, next to no chance whatsoever.

The long answer is that the 300lbs or so weight difference, 55 horse difference, 6 speed vs A4, and suspension/tire differences make them ACT like very different cars, despite how similar they look. We also have an S-10 pickup, but what's the point of having that in the sig? Now, if it were a Lightning, sure, then I'd include it
No kids (at home), 3 vehicles, all two seaters... life is good
'88Saleen, I think comparing a new Cobra to a new C5 is only a bit unfair, but absolutely nothing like comparing a C5 to a GT, which is completely crazy. A Cobra was on my short list of cars under consideration when I bought my Z06, but needless to say, a GT wasn't.

I thought the weight difference was more like 150 lbs?
Re: Black00SS, I just called the Z06 dealership!
For base cars, you're right. My wifes car is fully loaded... 6 way electically adustable drivers seat and passenger Sport seats (thicker padding, heavier), electronically controlled suspension, 12-disk changer, etc. It might only be a 200lb difference. In any case, they don't drive at all like they're the same car. About the only option it doesn't have is the HUD. Oh, her car also has aftermarket Z06 style rims, and those are about 15lbs heavier (each) than the stock rims they replaced.
I have a picture of her car on the home page of my website.

100% WRONG. the GT was an fbody fighter. the cobra was designed to go after the Z06 and but in a cheaper package. basically it got cheapened by just having the straight line abilities. the z06 will still MANHANDLE it on a road course and many a stock Z06 has dipped into the 11s with anything better than Joe Schmoe behind the wheel.
and the fbody didnt die because of lack of sales. but nice try again.

Re: Black00SS, I just called the Z06 dealership!
As much as I'd like it to be true, the only stock Z06s that have hit 11s have been at the hands of very good drivers. Check out Z06.com or other Vette/Z06 websites... probably fewer than a dozen folks have ever done it.

I don't know where you've been, but lack of sales is the primary reason why the Fbody died:
"GM officially announced on Sept. 25 its plans to discontinue both the Chevy Camaro and Poniac Firebird. The company is also closing the plant in Ste. Therese, Quebec, where the two cars are produced. John Middlebrooke, GM's vice president and general manager for vehicle brand marketing and corporate advertising, said the decision was unavoidable. He said the main reason was the decrease in sales of the regular sports car, which are down 53 percent from 1990." -- emphasis mine.

"According to GM vice president vehicle brand marketing John Middlebrook (a real car guy and Camaro enthusiast who once ran Chevrolet Div.), the combination of significantly reduced demand in the sporty coupe segment—down 53 percent from 1990 to 2000—and substantial excess manufacturing capacity made this decision "unavoidable."
