Beat a (cammed???) 94-96 Cobra

Heading to Target last night to get a few gift cards for Christmas (obviously) I see a 94-95 Cobra Convert. It was green, and had SVT badges and Cobra bumper. I can't remember if he had the older sideways taillights or the vertical taillights. Anyways he was probably about 3 cars ahead of me in traffic and I notice him driving like an idiot, constantly squealing the tires and cutting in and out of traffic. He takes off and pulls pretty far ahead of traffic, and I get in the lane behind him and slowly pull away from the other cars as well.

Now that I'm out of traffic and the roads open to a 4 lane road (4 each direction) there's hardly anyone else in sight. So I start to speed up and give pursuit...only now I can see in his window he has some gauges on the pillar . We pull up to a stop light and he looks over then revs at me. As his rpms go back down and into idle, I'm 99% sure I heard a lopey cam idle. At this time I realize it's very uncommon to find a cammed 4.6 DOHC, so I figure he has a 94-95 Cobra with a 5.0. He has a passenger or two while I'm riding solo, so I HAVE to beat him.

Light turns green, and my new Nitto's hook hard. He was hanging with me pretty good up to my rear fender until 60 or so, then I started pulling away and put about 2-3 car lengths on him. I slow down then he pulls up next to me and wants to go from a roll. We punch it from about 45, and he doesn't hang with me...I put about 2 car lengths on him again. I get over into the right turn lane and as I'm pulling into the Target parking lot, the passenger gives me the peace sign and I return the favor.

It was definently fun, but after thinking about it racing on the night before christmas eve was pretty dumb. There was hardly anyone else out, but someone still could have ended up having their christmas ruined (Such as mine or his..not to mention our families)

Good kill and glad to hear your Nittos hook for you. They are rock hard and they were about the most inconsistent tire I've ever run. I ditched them and went to the M/T DR's and will never EVER turn back.
