I think every ls1 owner knows that 03 cobras are significantly faster in stock vs. stock form. I don't thihnk anyone is really debating that. THe point is for me though, I think the ls1 is a better buy for the money and besides I hate ford and I think cobras are gay. Always have and always will. THere has never been a cobra faster than the z28 they just had to supercharge one to be able to keep up with us.

the difference between a stock cobra and a stock LS1 (power/MPH) is VERY similar to the difference between an LT1 vs. LS1

I agree with that. I raced an LT1 last night. I pulled up next to one at a light it was a ta. He had a new ram air hood (unpainted), chrome rims, sticky tire, chrome exhaust, gauges and he was blasting his techno music. He looked at my stock looking z28 and revved his exhaust at me. WHen the light turned green we rolled and then I pretty much spnaked him aftewr second gear. He pulled up behind me then got next to me at the next light. I asked him what he had done and he said just a few things. He asked me if I changed my gears yet, don't know why he wanted to know that. We went one more time and I smoed him this time through first gear and by the time I hit third I was a good 3-4 cars ahead. Maybe if he didn't spend all of his money on appearance mods he could have kept up.

OcSSleeper asked about running an 03-4 Cobra on the street.

I have ran an 03 sonic blue Cobra hard top from the dig to the end of 3rd gear (90 or so for me with 4:10's) and honestly he began falling back from the start, and at 90ish mph he was still falling back (we had to shut it down) a good 2.5-3 cars back. We both had traction issues..so what? That is part of a street race.

I think the 03 cobra is a good run for a stock C5. I have run quite a few of those and put the same distance on them as I did the Cobra. I have not come across a Z06 yet!! But I sure I will.

It's all in fun anyway right??
You win...great!
You lose... hats off to the other guy!!

Keith
P.S. Don't under estimate the other guy..even if it is an LT1.

That is the most ignorant statement ever! Ford with millions of $$ for R & D "had" to supercharge the Cobra to beat an LS1. Yeah, Ford is so stupid they could not ever build a n/a motor to beat a stock LS1 no matter how big the motor was or how much time and $$ they spent doing it. Ever heard of a 514 c.i. crate motor from Ford that puts out 600 horses? They could have (and should have!) crammed that thing into the Cobra and slapped fuel injection onto it.

Why apologize about the double post instead of just deleting one of them?

Thats true , Ford could have , they have plenty of money . But there are alot of things about desighning an engine that takes time . The 600 HP engine you are refering to would have had to be restricted and such to meet admision standards . Wich may have taken quite a bit of HP from it , Never know ! Thats one reason frd redid the Mustang engine . Because they had to meet emission standards that where coming . But I read out of one of my brothers mustang mag's that ford spent alot less money just redisighing the egnine rather then optimizing it . The modular motor is a better engine anyway . People are always saying " 302 this 302 that " Because everybody thinks that engine is just so rgeat . For its time , it was . Served its purpose while it was in production . But anyway , im way off topic now . Ford could have built a stronger motor but they chose to do it the most economical way . Money wise and probably enviroment wise . Why redisghn and engine when you can get the power out off it one way or another ! Point is they went this route for a reason . It was feasable to produce a car this fast with a production cost that would allow the common man to buy one .

A good cam and headers ....My buddy Joe runs mid 12's all day . With mids and a cam . LT1's where not anywhere near their potential form the factory . They are awsome motors . We dont all forget the LT1's . Im regretting the sale of mine . But My friend Mike will do more to it then I could . I cant afford 2 projects . At least not yet . Over time Ill aquire another one , along with a fox body Mustang .

the LT1 is basically just a fuel injected SBC,so its potential is great, but at the same time, its limits are pretty much known.

I ran an '03 Cobra today from a roll in 1st all the way
through my top end in 3rd. I was not sure what the
guy had planned. He ran past me on the right and
then we ended up at the same light, but he was not
acting like he was interested. After we rolled out in 1st
he decided to play so I nailed it and did the 1-2 at
6,000 and 2-3 at 5,800. I was pulling him very slowly
and ended up about 3 cars ahead by 5,500 in 3rd. A
close race but the old LT1 came out on top.
