Removing parking brake from rear caliper 96 Z28
Removing parking brake from rear caliper 96 Z28
Okay so I need to replace my left rear caliper. Someone on here was kind enough to link me a repair manual so thank you very much for that! From what I can tell the lower caliper guide pin also holds the e-brake assembly on? How does one remove this? I can get a caliper a little cheaper without this assembly included. If its too much of a pita I'll just spend the extra 20 bucks and get the full assembly. I'd like to know for knowledge sake either way

I took this all apart years ago to paint the calipers. The spring was a bit of a pain, but not unmanageable.
since you are replacing the whole thing anyway, I suggest taking it apart and getting a feel before you order. I don't recall any pins in mine.

See if this helps - from Shoebox. It is similar to the one on page 5B2-4 of the 96 factory manual. but might be a bit clearer.

Re: Removing parking brake from rear caliper 96 Z28
I have never has to disassemble the e-brake in the 25+ years I've owned my 4th Gen. Looking at the Shoebox diagram, it definitely shows that bolt #28 holds bracket #29. The spring appears to be pivoted on stud #27. Be careful when releasing the spring.... might be a good idea to wear eye protection.
