Rear disc brake pad removal
I was going to replace my rear pads and at the same time paint my calipers. Thought it might take 2 to 3 hours tops; the fronts have always been easy so I figured what the heck. Well, I've never had a car with rear disc's so this was all new to me. What's up with the lower bolt on the caliper that also holds in the emergency brake bracket? It looks like it needs to be removed with a 7/32 allen wrench and there's no room to get in there and gronk on it. What a crappy design! If I strip the internal hex whats the best way to get it off; drill off the head or use an air chisel? Maybe I went about it all wrong. Can anyone help me out?
I only remove the top bolt and rotate the caliper assembly to R/R rear brake pads. As far as painting the calipers, you can mask off the surrounding parts and spray them while they're mounted on the car.
