Rear brakes lock up...

I don't know what the problem is but for the past couple weeks the problem has been getting worse. Basically my emergency brakes are always on regardless of whether I have the lever up or down. Like I can change how hard they're clamping on the rear rotors by pulling up on it, but when I release the lever they're still locked on just not as hard. At first it was barely noticeable and thought it was the cause of it being so cold out. But now I can barely back out of my driveway. Anyone know what the problem could be?

Sounds like the cables are sticking either under the car right behind the shifetr or at the rear wheels. Get the rear wheels off and stsrt by checking the cables there.

time to change your shoes, or check the adjusting gear inside the drum.

99z has an integral shoe for the parking brake
i've seen on another car (93 dodge intrepid), the shoe material break away in pieces and get lodged ontop of the rest of the shoe material
