Koni Shocks Installed, Still Handles Like A Tank

Up to this point, I'm a bit disappointed in the suspension upgrades I've done to my car. I recently installed Koni's SA shocks (adjusted to softest setting), new tires all around (Nitto 555 Extreme) and wheels (OE Wheels Z06 replicas), along with everything listed in my signature except the subframe connectors which will be going on next week, and my car still feels like a tank. Every bump feels just like the stock worn out shocks are still on the car. How can I smooth out the ride a little? Will the subframe connectors help any? Springs are stock...is this the culprit?

Thanks.

When you hit a bump with worn shocks, the car will bounce up and down, since the shocks are not dampening the springs. When you install new shocks, it's not going to bounce up and down, the shock is going to control the springs. What you are noticing as a firmness, is supposed to be there.

Soft shocks and performance cars aren't a good mix.

What is the inflation pressure of your new tires?

40 psi all the way around. I should mention the wheels are 18x9 up front 18x10.5 in the rear. Tires are 275/35zr/r18 front, 285/35zr/18 out back.

40 sounds high, plus your 35 aspect ratio tires have little sidewall which makes them stiff and unforgiving.

Wayyyyyy too high. Follow the tire pressure printed on the tag on the driver's door. Why would you inflate the tires like that? Good way to prematurely wear out the center of the tread, and reduce traction.

I didn't do it. The place I bought the tires did. Just got them two weeks ago, maybe 100 miles on them at this point.

Re: Koni Shocks Installed, Still Handles Like A Tank

Quick update and a big thank you, Injuneer and shoebox.

I reduced the tire pressure to 30 psi and adjusted the shocks to full soft, which I thought they already were but they weren't, and the ride quality is vastly improved! Still a bit stiff but acceptable. Doesn't feel like I'm riding in a tank anymore. Hopefully when I get the subframe connectors installed next week I can get rid of some of the interior rattling.

Thanks again.
