And... I need a torque arm

following my original post: https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=562976

It turns out that my torque arm is broken. The metal has a one inch rip on the bottom, by the differential.

I have now a few questions:
- Stock vs. Aftermarket? Is there a big difference?
- I have LT headers, do aftermarket have the same clearance?
- The shop I asked quoted 3 hours of labor to change the torque arm, that seems quite excessive to me.

Well, an aftermarket TA probably wouldn't have broken! They are much stronger. And yes, three hours seems like a lot. It is an easy DIY job, just be careful to keep the diff from rotating once you remove the TA.

25th and 26th UMI is running a sale that I am participating in, please look here:

1) There is alot of difference between stock and aftermarket, you will not be dissappointed.
2) LTs are no issue
3) no comment on other shops procedures.

so, now I have options:

- Jegs
- Edelbrock
- Spohn
- BMR

other option here (talk about ladder bars):
http://ls1tech.com/forums/archive/in.../t-562337.html
the question remains how street friendly is this...

I am totally clueless about suspension, so I am doing some google-reading, but I would appreciate any advice/experience from you guys

Add UMI, madman, etc, alot of places make a TA, and if you look at the design they are nearly all the same, each one have a different little something but in the end they are all pretty much the same. Normally comes down to price and options, ie drive shaft loop (recommended!)

In my opinion I would get one that mounts to a crossmember rather than on the Trans, this gets the stress off the tailshaft. and get an adjustable one so you can set the pinion angle.

I can quote you a TA for your needs from Spohn or UMI if you want.

The Spohn is a very nice piece. Agree about getting the mount off of the tranny.

Quick question. Dont you only have to adjust your pinion angle if you are lowering the car.

What about old springs that aren't the same height anymore? I guess you could just check with an angle finder. What makes the chassis mounted aftermarket adj. TA so nice is, you get the stress off the tranny, you would have to have an ungodly amount of HP to even try to break one. They help the car launch better, and any time you take weight out or move it (as in battery relocation) you climb under the car and adj. the pinion angle.
