Deleting ABS on a non-track car (i.e. daily driver)

is this a good idea? I have heard braking is more responsive and that the abs sucks and doesn't help with anything on our cars? Does taking it off of my dd 97 heads/cam camaro sound like a good idea? Safety is my number one goal with this car but if removing the abs lets me brake sooner and apply more force that sounds safer in theory....

The main advantage of ABS is that it keeps the front wheels turning, and hence allows you to steer the vehicle in a panic stop. You can't do that when the tire lose traction with the road.

I will be deleting my ABS in a little over a week. I really don't like it on my Z, plus the fact I'm looking to lose some weight. It does have it's place, and is a good thing to have, come rain or snow. I just want to be able to have a better feel for the brake pedal, like years ago.
If someone has another opinion, good for them. I really don't wish to argue the advantages of ABS, I know what they are. No disrespect to anyone on this board.
