Law Enforcement
Law Enforcement
I currently do computer work for the school system, but I do not see much of a future if I stay with the county. Possibly, if I get a masters but not big bucks. I am also not sure if I want to deal with the corporate hassle and viciousness.
Now I have also been considering a career switch and am interested in law enforcement. Ideally I would love to do computer crimes but there are many other areas that interest me in law enforcement. (Always wanted to join the army)
What I would like to know is anyone in out there in law enforcement?
How did you get your start?
Is it possible to get all your training well working another job? See I can’t quit my day job need the funds.

I served in the Army for 5 years as a MP (Military Police). I can say that joining the Army is a big step, one that should be thought out carefully. I can tell you my experiences, but they will be different for each person. As far as civilian law enforcement goes, usually you attend the local academy and get your state certification and then you can be a deputy/police officer anywhere in the state. FHP has their own specific academy AFAIK. I would check out the local academies' schedules and see if they can work with your day job schedule. The only "academy" I know of locally is the program at SCC here in Sanford. Another option (one that was possible in the Sarasota/Bradenton area) is to get hired on with a police/sheriff's agency and have them put you through the school. Some will pay you while in training, some won't. You'll have to do some legwork to find out. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
I just graduated from the valencia academy in sept. I did the night academy which takes 9 months. It goes from 6-10pm monday through thursday, and from 8 - 5pm on saturday. It is very difficult to find an agency to sponsor you, and it is very difficult to get hired in the central florida area. If you have 4 years military or 4 years college you have an advantage. If you can relocate I think it will be easier to find a job.... both valencia and SCC have websites for their academies. My tuition was 1800, books were 200, and uniforms and misc. were another 200. Hope this helps!
i am graduating the scc police academy tomorrow.....loved every minute of it ...the scc one is very very physically demanding and its one of very few if not only military based police academys around!!!!!!! hurray for drill instructors in your face and 6 mile runs!!!!!! price after your books, weapons issued,3 uniforms, labs,
and everything is pushin 3500///i think?
