I'm thinkin 396...

I think I've come to a conclusion on what I want my build up to consist of. I want a 396 LT1 block from Golen (this comes with crank, rods, pistons, freeze plugs installed). The only issue is what to do about heads/cam. I'm assuming that since this is an LT1 block, I can reuse my existing heads and send them in to be worked on, correct? I know of a few places of the top of my head, VRE, AI, Lloyd E. and I think ARP? Is there a certain choice that may have better options for a 396? I will also be looking for someone to do a custom cam for the setup. Any advice from you guys who have worked with anyone on 396? I recall someone posting about AI recently. Anyone else?
Thanks

What are your goals for the car?

A4 or M6

Do you care about track times?

I'm going with my LPE CNC LT4 heads that I bought 10 years ago on my current 396 project just to see what happens. I've been told by Jason Short and a few others after giving the specs they will work very well. We shall see...

i have le2 heads they are def the limiting factor on my motor.I think you need a set of trickflow ported by Lloyd on any stroker motor if you want the hps. I already had the le2 heads so i threw em on but I want trickflows. 396 sure makes alot of torque though

To answer some questions, my car is A4, and yes I'm looking for the best track time I can get (assuming I already had slicks and a new rear...which i don't yet)
Although I would like fast track times though, it also has to be somewhat of a daily driver. I will be working with some suspension items as well to try and maintain a good balance between drag times and streetability as well.
Hope that helps some, if you need anymore info, post up

just like everyone will tell you - streetability is all in the tune.
What heads/cam are you looking at?
If you can give us more details on your setup, that would be great.

I was planning on saving my old heads, sending them in somewhere to have them checked and tested (I believe almost anywhere will do that), and then have them replace all the springs, valves etc. and whatever else goes into getting more power out of them.
For the cam, I was just going to have someone make a custom cam for my application, I was looking at Lloyd Elliot for something like that.
