Two things- New Edlebrock intake and magnacharger
Two things- New Edlebrock intake and magnacharger
Edelbrock LT1, Air-Gap manifold:
Okay, so I'd seen the prototype at the NSRA Nats and it looked good. The price seems a bit high to me though. Summit had it listed for $464 I think.
So, other than the longer, canted runners and the air-gap thingy, what do you see as a benefit from this piece...? I know the casting is THICK with lots of room for porting, but what about the milder setups that don't require big stuff...? Not sure I can justify the price of this one.
Magnacharger:
so, I've seen a lot fo these installs on everything from GTOs, trucks, Vettes, and even Gen I motors. I even saw one on a Flathead Ford. With the offset shaft drive the install is neat and tidy.
So, what about adapting one or magnacharger making one to explicitly fit an LT1 motor in the F, B, and Y-bodied cars. Junk the intake manifold and slap this thing in there...
It's a lot more space-friendly than a side-mounted unit and should be easier to plumb if the TB opening is modified somewhat.
Let's hear what you got to say about both.

A company I worked for a few years back developed a supercharger package for the LT1 Corvette. If I remember right it used a whipple charger, these may be pretty similar to the supercharger you mention. It did away with the LT1 intake and had a base manifold with very short runners that connected the outlet plenum on the bottom of the supercharger housing with the heads, this was very low profile due to the low hoodline. Not intercooled. I tuned one of them and drove it around a bit. Made about 5 lbs. of boost, don't know if more was possible without issues.
From my experience with this package I thought the centrifugal superchargers like the ATI and Vortech were a better idea.

The Edelbrock intake manifold I could frankly care a less about. As for the Magnacharger, I think that would be a cool setup. I don't know if we will ever see such a thing though. With all the LSx variants out, it seems thats where a majority of the new product development is focused.
talk to AS&M about making one for the lt1 cars. they do custom work and with the 2k price tag on a whipple and another couple hundred into fab work and new bolt holes......it's worth a looking into. i thought about it but i'm changing directions...trying to sell my lt1 car. i'm not doing any more performance mods to it.
i was thinking about taking a whipple charger from ebay, bringing the thing to a machine shop with some junk yard heads and having them machine it down to fit them for me. it would replace the intake just as the magnacharger but i couldnt figure out how to run the throttle body to it. it's in the back similar to the newer cobra and lightning chargers.

Do a search on the Advanced Tech forum. There was a guy who built an LT1 with a screw type blower. As I recall, it was not a successful install. I would think the 4th Gen cowl would present a bit of a space problem.
