too much waxing?
too much waxing?
Dont want this to sound like a stupid question but ive always wondered this...is there any way that you can wax your car too much, like if you wash your car every week and then wax it everytime you wash it, can it hurt the car in some way?
A non abrasive wax would be ok to use weekly if you want, be better off by far time wise to find a longer lasting wax or polish and use a detailer spray in conjuction with that to extend the wax coat.
You can put as much on your car as you want, as long as it is a non-abrasive wax. If you want the wax build-up, then you should use a "pure" (no cleaner) wax. If you use carnauba wax, and (like me) are accustomed to putting on multiple layers of it over a season, eventually this wax will need to be stripped clean from your paint, and you will need to re-start your wax layerings with fresh coats of wax in order to maintain your paint's optimal appearance. I like to do this once a year, regardless of whether it is inside or out. You can get away with leaving it on longer if its garaged, but the wax should be removed at some point.
To be painfully honest, you really do not need as much wax as you think. If you put a high quality pure wax on your car (provided you follow the right steps and you are working on a very good clearcoated paint surface), you could conceivably get away with about 2-4 coatings a year. Of course, you may end up losing some of the "beading" quality or luster, especially if its out in the weather. You didn't touch on the most important aspect of a wax, the wax itself, which doesn't go away (unless you use dishwashing liquid as soap!), but stays imbedded in your paint, that lubricates, coats and promotes toughness and long life to the paint. The benefit of wax is not so much its shine, but its protective qualities.
Use an excellent product, a good dose of common sense, and a proven washing and waxing routine and you will not go wrong!!
