It all depends on the wax, car type, and weather. If using standard carnuba wax on a cold, cloudy day on a white car, it may take a while to cure. On the other hand, using a synthetic polish like Zaino on a black car on a hot, dry, sunny day, it may be ready for removal in less than half an hour.

Simple rule of thumb is that if its really hard to take off, its not ready to come off yet.

If it's hard to take off, your using to much, all you need is a thin coat, a half dollars worth should be close to cover the whole hood. In cold wheather it'll take longer to dry though.

Each wax or polish is different, some say wipe off dry, some wipe off wet. You need to read the directions on the type you are using.
