Rolled my fender lips...now dimples.
Rolled my fender lips...now dimples.
I had to roll my fender lips because I am lowered and my 315/35-17 GS-D3s were rubbing on my fender lips when my suspension bottomed out. I ended up doing a sort of "baseball bat" technique to roll it by first using a bat to start to roll the lips, then I came back with a rubber mallet and finished pounding the fenders up. It looks really good and the paint didn't crack because I used a heat gun, but now there are a few dimples on each side. I assume this is because I pounded the metal and created stresses within the panel due to the bending metal. I also notice a sort of "eyebrow" over the ridge of the wheel well.
While in a parking lot, a shopping cart nailed my fender and made a huge dent that not even a PDR can take care of. So if I take my car to a body shop to have my dent removed, would they be able to reshape the fender and take out all the dimples and the eyebrow from my fenders? Would they just reappear again down the road? Would cutting my lips in a few places help releve some of the stress that may be in my quarterpanel? This is SUCH an eyesore for me, even though it is only really visible in a certain angle.

I wanted to roll my fenders the same way you did. I went to a body shop to inquire. They said what would happen, and it is what you said happened to you.
The reason is that lip exists to hold the shape of the fender, if it's rolled or cut to much the fender will warp/dimple.
He recomended the proper way to fix it is for his shop to flare the fenders, meaning cut out a section, weld in a new section, and flare it out. Maybe you should check with a shop to see what they can do for you.

So by rolling the lips, it allowed the fender to bend? If I just took it to a body shop to have them remove the dent and reshape the fender, it will just basically reappear down the road? I really don't like the look of having flared fenders so hopefully they can maybe reshape it and add some sort of support from behind?
