Removing large TAR stains

On the lower part of my door there is a piece of tar that is on my paint. Its a huge piece and its thick too. How car I get it off? I know bug and tar remover but this is really thick. Any ideas? Also its freezing here in PA so its probbaly going to be a bit harder to get off
