1) It comes to you in pieces. It is not welded together.
2) It comes to you bashed in They 'clearance' the 3" pipes about a foot from the collector in order to clear the tranny crossmember.
3) The pipes do have very weird angles that make you think that it won't fit.
4) The mufflex y-pipe is pretty crappy. Here are my notes from the install article over at thirdgen.org: "If you are going to run the Mufflex TPI-Y pipe for the hooker 2210’s (Part Number TPI-Y or TPI-Y O2 available from Mufflex Performance) then be prepared that it will most likely not ‘bolt-in’. I had to take the car to a local speed shop to have them chop up and reweld it. The passenger side hit the passenger side frame rail. The driver’s side didn’t hit anything but tucked up way too close to the stock Torque Arm mount. "

Here is mine all welded up after modification...

Thanks for chiming in Tim. I actually talked to the guys at Mufflex a couple times, and they didn't mention that the pipe was "some assembly required". In fact I was asking them about their welds on the part. You'd think they would have mentioned that. Maybe Alex works at mufflex. I was planning to buy a new Mufflex after I get the other things sorted out, but if what you say is still true I'll just make it myself. There isn't but $100 worth of metal, and if I have to build the damned thing anyway, why pay them $275 to put a few bends in a box? Must be SOME kind of box!

Anyway, I'm glad to have the info you posted for the reasons above, but I still feel wronged by Alex Newman for two reasons: 1) he offered a satisfaction-guaranteed return policy which he has refused to honor and 2) he stated that he had used this part on his car. Now, if you saw the hacked up pile of junk he sent, it was obviously not used in that condition. He knew damned well that I'd want to know the parts were disassembled, and he intentionally hid that information.

I understand that the two straight pipes are creased to clear the xmember, but these parts have numerous other areas that have been smashed in with a ball peen hammer for no logical reason. Again, an honest seller would disclose things like this when I asked about the condition of the part.

I know that you as an honest seller would have mentioned it, and so would any other honest seller.

Thanks for all the info!

I got the mufflex and it looks good, no complaints. Sorry about the y-pipe. I'm going to try and make my own with the bends from summit and the flowmaster y, might as well use it if you have it already dood.

Actually Summit is severely over priced on those bends. There is a company on ebay that sells steel bends dirt cheap, and you could also look at the places that sell big truck parts in the yellow pages. I made my catback from 3.5" bends I got at Inland Truck Parts. I can't believe people buy those $500+ catbacks from Mufflex when I built the exact same thing with: 1)60* bend ($18) three 90* bends ($16 each) a couple feet of 3.5" tubing ($20) and a muffler (mine was $70; dynomax round 21" long). It took a whole two hours to make.

Glad things worked out on the catback
