What would you do when/if Aircare is gone?

Any changes you would make?

Would you still run cats?

I'm sure everyone has heard by now that there is a distict possibility that Aircare could be gone by 07'.

I've never had a vehicle fail and I never will, so as far as I'm concerned I've been continually robbed needlessly for the last twelve years.
I would extremely look forward to not having to throw my hard earned money away.

Re: What would you do when/if Aircare is gone?

i think it may be a bad thing, there thinking of replacing aircare with the old style inspection centers. which is worse? air care or having a government inspection done every year or so. id pay for aircare then have them bitch about tinted windows, larger tires, lowering springs, no front plate etc.

if aircare goes it will be replaced with something, they still want to make money.

That's the thing though........all this time they have been saying that aircare doesn't make money......it's a money pit.

In some ways I think inspection would be better than air control.......and yet I see what you are saying about the added bull that goes along with it.

At least a person wouldn't have to worry about engine mods with inspection, everyone could go nuts.

I think if something is going to replace aircare it won't be right away anyhow.

id gladly swap cats on and off for aircare then to have go thru vehicle inspections, especially with these street ricers, they will step up regulations with modifications done to the vehicle.

Re: What would you do when/if Aircare is gone?

Yes AirScare has had a surplus of approximately 10 million over the last 5 years. It is because of this that they dropped the fees 1 dollar. But it’s still stupid because if you have to go to Aircare every year you pay $23, so for 2 years of Aircare it would cost $46. Now if you have a 94 or new vehicle you only have to go every two years, but you pay $47. Which is just plain stupid, it should cost the same for two years regardless. Also the Aircare program was designed/projected to only break even or run in the red, by the government when it was setup. The whole program is redundant for vehicles newer then 1986 and Aircare gives these older vehicles lower standards just so they can pass. With newer it’s an absolute waste. It’s like asking if a light works when it’s already on. I mean the federal government sets the standards for new vehicle emission standards and the vehicle is designed and tested by the producer to meet these standards. Now back to the 10 million dollar surplus, by the time that contract is up (some time in 2006) for the company that is currently running Aircare, they will still have a surplus of approximately 6-7 million dollars. Now here comes the kicker, they get to keep that money, because the program was projected to only break even or run at a loss. So government says that you did such a good job at doing absolutely nothing you can keep all the extra money you collected from average British Columbians. Now doesn’t just that make you feel all nice and warm inside.

Yikes Steve, You are riled up

But i agree I think any car less then 10 years old should be exempt. Fundamentally I think an inspection idea is a good one. Check for working lights, brakes etc. BUT I guess it depends how tough they would be.

Re: What would you do when/if Aircare is gone?

With the newer cars with all the computer enhancements and o2s after cats, heck the car will stop running or run like a bag of rats or have the SES light go on before it starts failing most likely, so the whole program is useless.

I'd rather have inspections, we already have to abibe by them, if a cop pulls you over and your too low you have to go through inspection, if you have no front plate you go to inspection, if you rubber is bad you will be put through inspection via a cop, so whats so bad about inspection? You don't need a cat to pass, they have inspection in Montreal, Armen just told me all the requirnments, its super easy, my car would pass in a heart beat.

Roy, putting your cats on and off sure is simple, but you have to keep in mind that if that was all it would take to make a decent heads/cam car pass then I'd agree, I'm sorry but Aircare blows, people like me will still find ways around aircare, but you can put 4 cats on my car and fail, imagine how much simpler exhaust system would be to build without cats
